Snagit = Bar Code Reader

Use Snagit to capture images, via webcam (such as my laptop's built-in camera), then find and decode a bar code (or multiple bar codes!) found in the image. Allow the user to scan manually or automatically, with or without the option to "push" the decoded data, either to the clipboard, or for data entry via "keyboard wedge". For me, the best end result would be the ability to have Snagit set in "continuous scan and data entry" mode, where I have a third-party application (e.g. spreadsheet or web page) open, position the cursor in a field, then hold up an item with a bar code on it, and have Snagit populate the field with the bar code data. For extra points, allow the user to parse the data and modify it (truncate, add prefix, suffix, etc.) like your typical Symbol/Motorola scanner will do. This could turn any laptop into a POS machine, warehouse workstation or ticket scanner without any additional bar code reader hardware.

I expect there is another whole user community out there that is looking for bar code functionality that would be drawn into the rest of the TechSmith product suite if this was part of the product!

There are some mediocre products out there that do some of this, but not very well. I'm sure what TechSmith came up with would be a lot better :)
