I love my Techsmith products, BUT
Why don't you have a screen recorder app yet? I want to do this with Techsmith software. That's how easy it can & should be.

Techsmith shouldn't be falling behind. We have been waiting for years now...

Fuse should be able to do it. Or Techsmith Desktop software should have a built in support for screen mirroring for all mobile or tablet device to record. Not only C. Studio iOS/Mac appShow.

PolkaFever,

Even though I'm not on the Studio team, I'd like to respond to your message, largely because I love your screenname and I'm Polish.  (And I too wish we had this functionality.)

My understanding of this is that we still can't record the screen on iOS via an App in an Apple-approved way.  The iOS sandboxing of applications just doesn't allow this.  (And obviously we don't and won't encourage people to jailbreak their phones.)  The Android world is obviously different, but last I knew, there wasn't a super consistent and reliable way to do this with Google API's.  (Although that might have changed.)

So in the meantime, we've tried to do the next best thing by showing you Apple and Google approved ways of doing things here: https://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-camtasia-mac-recording-your-ios8-device.html, here: http://blogs.techsmith.com/tips-how-tos/13-tips-for-recording-iphone-ipad-ipod/, and here: http://blogs.techsmith.com/tips-how-tos/screen-capture-tablet-ipad-tutorial/

So I hope this helps at least a little in providing some additional context to the situation.  It's not like we don't want to give you this functionality, but we're only going to do it when there is a consistent and approved way of doing it.

[Camtasia/Fuse teams, if I'm mistaken or dated in my knowledge with anything I've said above, please correct me and set the record straight.]

Thanks for your feedback and request PolkaFever.  Perhaps at some point API.

Hey Walter,

That response is a treasure trove. I don't think the solutions supported are ideal but at least they are workable for apple.

I've read alot about Airserver app for apple and windows phones. It seems to be a very nice solution.

It seems out of all these, android is the odd man out. Is it true that the only real solution is to add new hardware to your computer? What if you don't have a desktop and only have laptops like myself? SOL?

Sorry Paul.  I looked and asked around, and we don't really have any documented recommendations for you at the moment if you're on Android.

I talked to one of our Android Devs about this and he said that it is possible now with the API's provided by Google for us to do the screen-recording on the Android side.  So with this further request by both you and PolkaFever, it serves as another request for this functionality.  I don't know how confusing it might be for us to potentially add this on the Android side and not the iOS side but that's for the product teams to figure out.  (The iOS side doesn't have the API's to do this entirely in-app.)

Once again, thanks for the request and on behalf of TechSmith, I'm sorry we can't address it for you with our software yet.  I'll bring this thread up to the Fuse Project Manager so he's got another data point to consider.  We appreciate the feedback and the request, it's the reason this feedback.techsmith.com forum exists.  And once again, I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time.

Hey Walter, i deeply appreciate your candid answer. I'm encouraged that Techsmith is considering a solution.

It would be very nice to have a solution that was web based. Maybe an app built into HTML5? Just spit balling but this might be a way to make the solution "universal" to various Os'. However, selfishly i'd only be concerned about a working solution for Android... Anyone who is Techno cool knows android is the Light side of the force and iOS is the dark side.... ;)

anyway, if there is a mailing list i could get on that lets me know when Techsmith has more news on this subject i'd very much like to be on it.

Anyway, thanks again and may the android force be with you.

Light or Dark side? I don't like to take a stand. Try to make available similar software, features and services to all major OS's and devices. I think that's important! That means Android is too big to ignore. Still I am as selfish as PaulBo when it comes to my own magnificent Android device. Seeing solutions only for iOS is annoying.
I NEED this to build the relevant video tutorial content of 2016. From a non-technicaI, user perspective I can't see the obstacle to create this. Techsmith has given me the tools to create content for over ten years. I'll hate to go elsewhere to find the obvious for my needs to record handheld screens. This IS your alley!
On that bombshell - I hope Techsmith Project managers and developers come together and find us a solution. Gus Polinski found solutions for people in desperate needs, maybe you can too, Walter? Bring it upwards on the RoadMap list and I'll get you your Kishka :)
