Editing Groups - Closing a Group on the TimeLine

I've just upgraded to Camtasia 2018 for Mac and imported a project (from Camtasia Mac 3) which has a number of groups on the timeline.

I can open the group no problem (the little plus next to the group name) but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to close the group again after I finish editing it. There used to be a small minus on the timeline that you used to close the group again but it seems to have disappeared. I've tried ungrouping and re-grouping, and tried to create a new group directly in 2018, but still can't figure it out - currently I am having to close the project and re-open it which is obviously a little frustrating.

Sure that this is a simple one but any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Are you on Mojave?  There is a change in the OS that causes the tabs for the group not to be drawn.
Unfortunately, there is no work around.  We are working on a fix and will get a maintenance release out to address this as well as a few other more minor issues. This issue, which we were unaware of when we released, is really crippling since the only way to get back out of the group is to close and reopen the project.  Note that this issue only affects Mojave.

If you have another system with an earlier OS on it (or can boot into an older OS), the group tabs work fine and you may wish to work there until a fix is released.
Alternately, you could contact TechSupport and see if you can get a prerelease build with a fix in place for this bug.

Shouldn't even the most basic QA have caught this before you released the update? Did you send Mac users an email warning them not to update if on Mojave? Did you message this information in the app itself? Grrrrr. You got one thing right, this issue IS "really crippling."

Hello,

Are you running into this issue? If so, can you please do the following:

- create a ticket here: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
- Put "Attention Aaron Y" in the subject
- Just say your issue is with not being able to close groups on Camtasia 2018

We'll get you squared away! I sincerely apologize for any trouble!

Well, yeah, it's not fun, but hey, at least you guys have a clear answer that's easy to find on the interwebs about what's going on. I googled Stuck Groups Camtasia and found this page right away. So that's a win!

The fall is always interesting because you never know what might not work exactly as designed when a new OS is released. We try to catch any issues and have an update ready right near the time the new OS releases publicly, but it is currently not practical to cover every single aspect of the application. A large and growing portion of our applications have automated tests to insure we do not break functionality, but UI issues are especially hard to track down since under the hood the everything appears to be working just fine, even though some element is not actually showing on the screen when it should be.
We will have a fix out shortly for this and other issues on all of our supported OS's and hardware, but it's always possible that there are some lingering issues that haven't been uncovered yet. Please, please let us know if you hit something unusual so we can verify the issue, and offer a workaround if there is one or if not, at least get a patch ready so we can get you up and running again.
Finally, if you are hitting this bug, you can contact tech support as Aaron mentioned and get the release a bit early.  If you are on Mohave when you get the Camtasia update, it would be a good idea to update Mojave as well as some of the know issues (and our number1 crash on Mojave) that have been resolved in the Mojave10.14.1 update. I'm sorry if this issue has bit you. With our update and the OS update, Camtasia should be working again as expected.

I found a fairly simple, temporary solution to this problem that has been working for me. When you open the Group and you don't see the tabs, navigate to the View tab and then toggle the following:
  • Show Marker Track
  • Show Quiz Track
  • Show Caption Track
As you toggle these, the group and Main Timeline tabs should appear. These will stay visible throughout the session.

Camtasia 2018.0.6 was released today and it fixes this issue.  You can check for updates within the app, or just down load it from here.  https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

I'm glad it's working now for Mojave users. This should be a lot less frustrating!
