Effect properties should be remembered

(This idea is something we’ve heard from customers over time from several of our sources of feedback. We’re posting it here to gauge how well this fits our users’ needs. So please let us know what you think.)

Currently effect properties are remembered while you're running Snagit, but then after you close the app, those settings revert to defaults. This is annoying in that you have to reset the properties after every launch. So If you like a gray 2px border on your captures, you have to change it from the default 8px border (which probably also should be changed).

This one's a no brainer.   And no argument from me about the 8px default border. :)

I thought the software was broken or buggy install because it didn't remember my preferences between restarts. Glad to know this *might* be on the roadmap =)

This has my vote!!!  I use SnagIt every day and HATE the lack of persistent state in the effect properties.

Yes......very frustrating to make changes and then have to do the same thing the next time you start SnagIt......or at least make it an option to save changes.

Oh, man... Yes!! Having to set "Sharpen" and specific Brightness/Contrast settings that I routinely use is a daily aggravation.  You could even take this one step further -- allow users to save varied "named" presets of multiple settings. Would THAT ever be great!

You can currently create Quick Effects that will be saved with multiple settings but it certainly could use a name, that'd be a great addition!

We have this definitely under consideration for an upcoming release. This will certainly help users keep their content visually consistent and reduce extra work every time to close Snagit or restart your computer. Thank you for voting!

A REALLY big enhancement would be to allow save (and name) settings for multiple effects at once. For example, I routinely need Sharpen 15% plus Brightness -5% plus Contrast +5%. Being able to save that all of those settings as one selectable "effects" name would greatly reduce "click-and-set" time.

Being able to do this and use it in a preset would help enormously. I need to use Capture Info, for Date and Time, but also add  thin dark border. Can't do this at the moment. Would also like the ability to save Capture Info as a Quick Effect.

We're moving this from under consideration to planned. In an upcoming release of Snagit, we plan on having the effect properties remembered after you close the app and reopen it. This is under development right now. If anyone is interested in future betas. Let me know: c.larson@techsmith.com. Again, thank you for voting!

Hello all! This was released today in Snagit 2018.

Edit: We will have this in an upcoming maintenance for 13 as well. :)

Thank you to all the beta testers that gave feedback on how this worked!

Snagit 2018 is a paid update.
There is upgrade pricing available. You can upgrade from any previous version of Snagit and get this pricing.
If you are currently paying for maintenance, this update is included for free.

I just downloaded Snagit 2018.2.0 Build 1511 and noticed that the effect properties persistence has been lost. I am doing a major project right now where I need to highlight a specific menu item or spot on a dialog box, which I do by putting a 6 px, transparent box around the item. I also do other things such as adjust the edge effects.

Now every time I return to the Shape by pressing the Shape button, I find the defaults of 2 px, filled in white, with a shadow. As I am doing dozens of these tonight, this is very troublesome. I would rather not save this as a Quick Effect since this is what I *always* do with the Shape.

Hmm. I'm still seeing it remember the Effect properties across launches: https://www.screencast.com/t/LCp1ZhSvqQDY

And it seems to be remembering the Shape properties between when I switch to the Effects panel: https://www.screencast.com/t/TfL9HO07Fk

So that makes it tricky to fix. If you have time, I'd recommend opening a support ticket to see if we can get more information and get to the bottom of your issue: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hi! When will this be applied to Camtasia? We are several in our organization producing lots and all of us must adjust for example cursor settings for every video. Thanks Maria

I concur to Maria. Saving presets in Camtasia (Windows) is a must. The lack of this feature is what stops us from upgrading Camtasia to a newer version.

Chris, any possibilities this will be implemented in the future release?
