Effects -> Capture Info -> Username

My customers complaining about a feature which is gone when we updated Snagit 12.2.2 / Snagit 13.0.3 to Snagit 13.1.3

The feature was an effect added to the lower edge of the captured screenshot. The tool had a separate feature "Username". Now with version Snagit 13.1.3 there is only "Custom Text".

This limits the user just for 1 custom text instead of 1 username and additionally a custom text.

Does Techsmith plan to re-enable the feature in the next version?

Only Techsmith has the answer to that and I know of no workaround for this.

You might want to post this as a idea post and see if it gets any for votes for consideration.

If a Techsmith person doesn't reply here on this post you can contact them here to discuss it.

Hello Marcus;

I spoke with a member of the Snagit team and this is the response:

We added new capabilities to display the app name and version, which people were asking for. keeping user name was causing display issues in the new format. After talking with people that used it, we decided to remove user name. We think we have those issues resolved now. We’re considering adding it for a future release.  How do you all use it currently? For bug reporting?

Any responses from the community would certainly help!

Thank you for your reply. I will forward this to my customer. I guess they're expecting the feature to be back soon ;) Cheers, Marcus

For regulatory reasons we need the information 'user id' and 'date' as part of the screenshot, when we document e.g. a change of a configuration (screenshot before and after).

We also need this for documentation reasons.

We use this field for regulatory audit requirements.  I've been able to script out putting the user name in the custom text field, but it would definitely be a bonus to have this option back.  The header for it is still sitting in the XML file.

We use it for regulatory testing.  We have a template setup that puts the username and timestamp in the bottom of the image.

Could this be addressed by providing us with some variables to use in the custom text box?  This would allow you to bring back %USERNAME% and also support different date formats.
