Enable Horizontal Scrolling by tilting the scroll wheel left / right

Title says it all.  I have become accustomed, by many other programs, to scroll horizontally by tilting the scroll wheel , but SnagIt doesn't do it, which is frustrating

I'm a Photoshop guy. I enable Zoom  with the control wheel in PS. That disables scrolling with the "Tilt Wheel" also.

So, I've always been a big fan of the "Pan" tool for limited scrolling. Which is triggered by the shift key in PS.

In SnagIt it's Ctrl+Shift. Which works but is kind of clunky by comparison.

There's another option that's equally if not more clunky. Due to the spacing of the keys you must hit.
Shift +Alt +Scroll Wheel ........That will give you Horizontal Scrolling.

I voted for Tilt Wheel Scrolling. Good luck with that.

Regards,Joe

On my own setup, it seems that just holding Shift and rolling the wheel allows left/right scrolling.

I suppose YMMV

Your correct Rick, I got there too. The Shift key for scrolling left/right works.

So does changing the batteries in your keyboard, LOL

I was screwing around trying to find the shortcut.I knew there was one and I was getting mixed signals from my keyboard. Shift and alt seemed to work every time.

I prefer to look up shortcuts I'm uncertain about.
TechSmith doesn't have complete listings of the ones they incorporate.

Nope, Shift + roll does not work for me.

Tilting the wheel works in other apps though

Well, Shift + scroll wheel should work. Why it won't for you is a mystery? For me it was intermittent until I changed the batteries in my keyboard.LOL
But I can assure you it works under normal conditions.

Windows 10.
Microsoft mouse and keyboard set.
New batteries.
Tilt wheel works in other app.
In SnagIt

Shift + Wheel = nothing happens
Ctrl + Wheel = zoom
Alt + Wheel = nothing happens
Ctrl + Shift + Wheel = zoom
Alt + Shift + Wheel = nothing happens
Ctrl + Alt + Wheel = zoom
Shift + Ctrl + Alt + Wheel = zoom and claw fingers

Claw Fingers LOL
Yeah, that's how I feel about a lot of keyboard shortcuts.

You have a disconnect that I suspect is SnagIt related. I would try a repair install and see it the dots get reconnected. In general, no harm is done though repair installs. Your preferences are "Usually" left in tack and nothing changes.

Although you might want to check ...........Send user data to TechSmith, automatically check for updates, things of this nature. TechSmith enables things like that by default, with every maintenance release. So a repair install will re-enable these things.

Well it's a disconnect within you PC then.Somehow Shift has taken a vacation and left you holding the bag.
You could get tech support involved.I be they can fix it.Why not, it's free?By weeks end or so you will probably have this resolved. Or you can live with waiting for a feature that doesn't stand a snowballs chance "More than likely" of ever being implemented.
So far you have landed my vote and that's it.

Heya Paul

Just to confirm, I hope you aren't thinking when we say Shift +Wheel you aren't interpreting that for us to say that by pressing Shift and holding we are using the tilt function. (Pressing the wheel to either side)

I could see where you might be mistaking that.

What I'm referring to is holding Shift, then rolling the wheel as if you are scrolling the image up or down.

Cheers... Rick :)

No, I'm totally with you.  Shift + Scroll wheel up or down doesn't work.  I did have an idea that perhaps my working in one monitor / split screen mode might be implicated.  But no, going full screen it still doesn't work

Hi Paul;

Would it be possible for you to upload a video of the behavior you're getting?

I'm able to scroll horizontally using Shift+Scroll (I've tested it with two mice, a Tesoro Sagitta and a Mionix Naos, both work) when zoomed in so I have scrollbars on both the top and the bottom of the image in the editor.

Do you have any mouse utilities that might take over the Shift+Scroll function (perhaps some sort of software for setting macros or changing performance outside of Windows' basic Mouse control)?

It'd be the most boring and pointless video ever Robert because absolutely nothing happens.  :)

No macros. just standard wireless Microsoft mouse

A complete reset of SnagIt got us no further forward.  It has now been escalated.

but I stand by my OP.  Tilting the scroll wheel is a de facto standard, why not support it?

That's like the age old question.
Why does TechSmith create their own Shortcuts at times, ignoring industry standards?
And use them other times.

Like the pan tool.
Industry Standard............ Hold down the Shift Key.
Camtasia uses it, SnagIt Does Not.......Go figure?

I use the pan tool quite a bit, I know "Spacebar" is the industry standard shortcut.

What can I say? I was having a momentary brain malfunction. Good thing I wasn't designing software.

Hey guess what guys?  If you go to the recents tray and press the tilt wheel left and right, guess what happens?

How inconsistent is THAT!  We'll support it here, but not there.

Actually it wouldn't surprise me to hear that the functionality is just built into whatever control they may be using to present that recents area. I think lots of things are that way when developers build applications.
