Error "file in use" when trying to Produce and Share

Hi, I'm using Camtasia 8, and when trying to Produce & Share, it gets right to the end and then gives me a message stating that "a file is in use, please close the application that is using the file and try again".

I have shut down all other applications, I have tried rebooting, I have tried both MP4 only and MP4 smart player (up to 1080), and I have tried using different file names.  All with the same result.

My only option is to press Cancel, which (obviously) cancels the rendering.

I really don't know what to try next - any ideas?

Thanks,

Damian

Hi Damian and thanks for stopping by!

Are you trying to produce to a network drive, external hard drive, or to a cloud-synced folder (such as OneDrive or Dropbox)?

Hi Robert.  No, it's all local here on my laptop.

Since my last post I've tried *.wmv with the same error.

The file that it thinks is in use is the *.wmv or *.mp4 file itself.....the very file it's trying to create.

I've recorded and produced many items in the past, but this one just don't seem to work.  Any advice is appreciated, as I've spent days recording and editing this.

I've seen this when a previous production of same project [by name] is open in a browser

be sure no browser view is open [close if open], then try again

Nope, nothing at all open except Camtasia, tried rebooting just to make sure. Same problem.

And once it manages to get sorted, hopefully one of you will post what the "fix" was so it will benefit other forum users down the road!

Cheers... Rick :)
