Existing video captions to speech

I have existing videos that use only captions, no audio. Now, my boss wants to make them more accessible and have the captions audible. Is there any way I can reproduce the videos that will enable a screen reading program, like Microsoft's Narrator,  to pick up the caption text?

Hi there

I've heard of Narrator before but have never used it. I might think that you will encounter lots of difficulty in finding anything that will seamlessly convert the text to speech for you. I'm also an Adobe Captivate user and I know that Captivate has a Text To Speech engine built into it. And from playing with that, I am aware that expecting the text to be converted to speech AND match the timing of your video is likely to be a tall order.

My best guess is that you can use Google to find one of the many Text To Speech applications out there. Then copy your text and paste into the app, allow it to create an audio clip, then insert the audio clips into Camtasia and adjust the timing to best suit things.

Hopefully others will chime in with other and better ideas.

Cheers... Rick :)
