Export caption but only the first few minutes are in the SRT file.

Using Camtasia 3, we have manually added captions for an hour long video but when we try to export the SRT file, only the first 3min and 40sec are showing up in the SRT. Any ideas? We need a complete SRT file. Can we open this project in a newer version of Camtasia? Would that help? Any ideas are welcome so we don't have to redo the entire captioning for the video.

Hi there

I've seen posts that suggest you are unable to open a version 7 project in version 9 until you first open it in Version 8 and save it. So I'd be totally flabbergasted to see any ability to open a version 3 project using version 9.

Only TechSmith can say for sure, but you may find that you need to open and save this project in each successive version leading to version 9. And that would seem very painful.

Makes me wonder if you wouldn't be better off just exporting the base video as an AVI, then re-creating the project in version 9 using the base video you exported as a start.

Perhaps other users will have better ideas. I sure hope so.

Cheers... Rick :)

Thanks Rick,

I am hoping to avoid redoing all of the captioning when we have already done it. I worry that we will have to redo it, but wanted to explore other options first.

I would look at the first caption that did not get exported and see if there are any special characters in that caption that did not exist in the previous ones. My hunch it that something unexpected shows up that the SRT writer can't deal with and it fails.
Are you on Mac or Windows?
If you are on MAC, version 3.1.2 is the latest, and if the project can be shared, you may wish to contact Techsmith's tech support directly.  They may be able to help you out.  Possibly they can get your STR file exported for you.  Less ideal for your immediate need, we may be able to determine where it is failing and then fix the issue for a future release.
If you are on Windows, version 3 is no longer supported.

Thank Leif,
I have looked and the SRT stops in the middle of a word. The caption doesn't contain any special characters. It is a total mystery why it is stopping at that spot. We are on a Mac.

I will contact Tech Support and see if they can help. Thank you.
