Extend Frame Broken

Extend Frame Broken - Since updating to the latest patch of C9, the Extend Frame function is is now erratic. Sometimes it works. And sometimes it doesn't.

I've found it doesn't work for me mostly when I create a project on one Windows 10 PC, and then conclude the work on another Windows 10 PC - both running the updated patch.

Yes, I know how Extend Frame works. I've used Camtasia professionally every day for many years.

This is a bug. It didn't happen to me with the initial C9 release (though I notice it did for some other users). It's now only started affecting my workflow with the update.

Seeing as this bug has been noted before on this forum, is there a time scale (ironic) for when a fix will be issued?

Thanks.

Here's a short video if you want to see the issue.

You'll notice, it is erratic. I was able to create one extended frame at the start of the file. But, from that point on, no further extended frames could be created.

Additionally, the extended duration of the frame extended was initially set to 9 secs. From this point on, it can't be edited to increase that length. It can only be edited to reduce the length.

after you extend a frame, you can make it longer if you first make some space on timeline for the extension, then drag the end of it to the right

you can always use a saved frame on timeline to act as a frame extension

The point is, I can't extend the frame. The option does not allow for this. I know it should. It's a bug.

Yes - I know the convoluted and time consuming workarounds.

I was reporting the bug in the hope it gets fixed so that the function goes back to working properly again.

When using multiple screen recordings in a project, obviously the ability to use the RECORD function to create audio narration makes repeatedly moving the clips cumbersome and lengthy.

Obviously, this is not conducive to using the audio record function where 8 secs of audio might be recorded, an extended frame added, then record maybe 14 seconds of narration, then extend the frame etc.

In fact, the option to extend the frame does not appear. It is greyed out. That's the problem.

As I say, I hope the bug gets fixed soon. Never had this issue through many versions of Camtasia until this latest patch of C9.

frame extensions work fine for me

I have to ask ...

is the clip you want to extend selected?

is the playhead over the location of the frame you eant to extend?

and once a clip gets a frame extension, you cannot extend that extension again

"once a clip gets a frame extension, you cannot extend that extension again"
  1. Does that mean that once I've used extension on a clip once, that clip is doomed to carry the same extension duration until the end of the project?
  2. Is there any way of splitting a clip so I can get multiple extensions?
I've got a clip recorded from a PowerPoint animation. I was hoping to adjust the voice narration with the animation in Camtasia: splitting the clip, adding in silences when the audio is too short, adding in clip extensions when the audio is too long. The restriction you mention seems to rule out that approach, as I don't think I can rely on getting it right first time every time...

I saw this too.

The issue seems to be that if there is any media to the right of what you want to extend, the option is grayed out and it won't do it anymore.

Very messy business IMHO...
