Hi,

This "Extend frame" topic is a major source of CONFUSION in the Camtasia apps, including C9!

  • The earlier C8 Mac version could make different things than Windows version,
  • The http://www.screencast.com/ is all over the with extend frame videos - all of these are actually just workarounds but NOT a real and simple solution!
  • There are features that were disabled and even revoked in Extend Frame so this is a huge mess now even in C9 and does work very emabarrassing!

Please Techsmith, GET this:
the major source of confusion comes from the fact that Extend frame works on only a SINGLE track, not on ALL track! To be more precise: as extend frame currently just affects only the selected single track, everything (other audio and video clips) after the extension goes out of sync in case of multiple tracks!

If I insert e.g. 5 sec at the middle of the movie with extend frame, it will extend the frame for the video, it is ok, but all other tracks are unaffected, they stay at the same position! They should have been moved 5 sec later, but now everything goes out of sync!

Sure, many of us know and have to use the workarounds every day
1. by moving everything back and forth with Shift and copy/pasting split clip / unstitching elements and extend these, and pulling out-of-sync elements forth and back. This is awkward and the source of possible errors.
2. Saving a frame and re-inserting.... meeehhh.... the last thing people want during work is to accomplish additional and unnecessary file management steps!

A snapshot of a timeline state in the memory would be perfectly enough, saved with the Camtasia project internally. Like e.g. the user drags a frame from the main canvas / preview window to the Project Bin or right to the timeline - so essentially drag it back wherever I want - so simple like this. People do not want to spend time to save it as an external file, just for using this snapshot image exclusively internally in this project only once...

Please make a
  • real easy-to-use
  • final
  • cross-platform solution
for this confused Camtasia topic finally.

Let the user decide if
1. she/he want Extend Frame affect only ONE track
2. or ALL track.
3. Also, please make it easily draggable the borders after extension (maybe with a modifier, as it worked in Mac version with Shift), without the need of any push-pull tricks!

thanks,
Baci

Hi and thanks for submitting your idea/feature request!

As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the 1st of the month, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.

In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!

Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!
