I am creating instructional videos and the explanation lasts a little longer than a segment of the video. Is there a way to stretch or pause the video while I explain what is going on?

Yeah, put your cursor at the end of the video.
It should change to the double arrow symbol, now press and hold "alt" key.
That will repeat the last frame for you.

Very good to know.  Thanks!  I have always split the clip at the end and changed the speed to slow down that cut clip.  If you want to slow down in the middle of a clip to match the explanation, that is the only way I know (cut a piece out of it and only slow down that piece or now I can use the "alt" key on the first of the two pieces of the video).

Indeed as Hackzilla stated, this is the way to do it.   I did not know the shortcut key (thanks for the tip !), I use the menu action EDIT /  PLAYHEAD / EXTEND frame to playhead.   Super cool feature.
