Extending frames and moving all content downstream for Camtasia 2.3.1

Please let me know if Camtasia 2.3.1 for Mac has the ability to extend frames that will ripple move all other content downstream by the number of seconds designated by the initial frame extension. I created a video with at least 50 separate frames and callouts and audio clips and now I need to extend a couple of the frames in the initial part of the video. I don't want to have to manually click everything downstream and guess at which point they should be placed to link up more appropriately with the audio. Thank you!

There is no ripple extend frame, but you can ripple move everything together then add the extension.

Here's how do that on one track as well as on all tracks: http://www.screencast.com/t/Jll0OCAPNC

If there was a ripple extend frame feature, how would you expect it to work?

This is a really old comment, but I am using extend frame a lot on my recent project, and would really like to have an option where if I extend the frame 10 seconds, all other (nonlocked) tracks get pushed 10 seconds.  Is that an option currently that I have missed?

Shame, but it has not been repaired yet after so much time!

Unfortunately this seems to no longer work in Camtasia 2018 :( cmd click and drag creates a timeline selection and does not initiate a ripple move.

It was changed in Camtasia Mac 3.0 to the Shift key to be consistent with Windows.  We you want to click first, and the hold down the shift key to initiate a ripple move.

Hi Conan,

Thanks very much for your reply and instructional video-- that's exactly what I was looking for. Is there any way to select all frames using the command key, but not have audio selected? If I use the command key and then move the playhead, it also selects the audio, but I'm just trying to have the image frames extend to better match the audio. I have about 5 different layers of tracks with lots of splits, so the command key is great for moving everything, but I really don't want to move the audio tracks. Is there a way to manually deselect the audio tracks with the command function you showed me, or better yet, a way to have the audio track completely unselected from the command key function?

Hi Sarah,

Sorry for the delay. Here are a few ways to tackle shifting down everything on only a few tracks. Hopefully at least one of them will work for you.

Is there a way to accomplish this the same way on Windows version of Camtasia Studio?
I do not find a solution...

Hi Bacizone,

The PC version is pretty much the same but uses the SHIFT key instead of the CMD key. I believe you can also ripple extend by holding shift and grabbing the edge of a clip.

Unfortunately no, the PC version is quite different.

Seems that the UX and the design of the Windows version is pretty inferior compared to this new development for OS X Camtasia.

E.g. Extend frame extends always on just a single track, not all of them, so make the extend frame function useless there as everything behind the extension goes out of sync. Sure, there are workarounds, but definitely does not work what is above in the video with the OS X version.

I can not believe how an expensive app like Camtasia Studio 8 was not tested by real users before the release.

Hi Bacizone,

Sorry, I must have misunderstood exactly what you were asking about. Following the conversation in this thread I assumed you were wondering how to ripple push media.

Are you wondering how to extend multiple pieces of media at once?

Yes, but in the Windows version of Camtasia Studio 8.x.

Ah. Yes, unfortunately you are correct. In Camtasia Studio, while you can extend multiple selected clips that are at the playhead, they do push everything down stream the length of the extension.

Hi Conan,
This worked perfectly for me for the first few 'inserts' I needed to do in my video. But after a few Command key / move playheads (totally successful), I now get an error message 'Camtasia was unable to complete your operation'. Very problematic! I have Mac 2.10.3 (91804). Please help! I have to insert multiple more sections across all the tracks so this functionality is critical to have restored. Not sure why it's suddenly unable to complete the operation.

Ugh. Yes, very problematic.

I'd submit a ticket with our Technical Support: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
They're best suited to help troubleshoot where the problem is.

Thanks Conan...I've done that. Seems like only solution (at this point) is to export to MP4 and edit it as a single block vs. tracks so I can get the project done quickly (not ideal but I have no other choice). I've rolled back to multiple previous versions, copied/pasted all tracks into a new file in case the project file was corrupt, and worked on it on two different macs. In the meantime I'll submit the file itself to tech support so they can tinker. BAH!
Really appreciate these community boards and your feedback etc, so helpful!
