In Mac version 2 I could record my external HD camera using my BlackMagic Intensity Extreme and now in version 3 that option is no longer and I can only use the internal camera on my MBP? This does not seem right. Why is this? Seems backwards. please help. is there any work around?

Not sure why you can't record your camera in Camtasia 3.  However, you can have both Camtasia 2 and Camtasia 3 running side by side on your system.  So as a workaround, you can record your camera in Camtasia 2 and do your editing in Camtasia 3.  The easiest way may be to pick the option to save your recording when it is done rather than opening it in the editor (that option is in the recording tab of the preferences).  Then you can just pull that recording into Camtasia 3 and edit away.

That’s weird because when I spoke with tech support he stated that he had no idea if v2 rec files could be be edited in V3 editor. I guess when they say no more support for previous versions. Them mean no support for previous versions. Understood. What I don’t understand is why I can’t capture my external camera via thunderbolt currently in V2.10 or V3. I guess it’s a permissions in issue with version 10.13.4 High Sierra.

I opened V2 this morning and noticed that I could not capture my external video like the past event where I capuured my desktop and external video capture via thunderbolt. So I upgraded my v2 this morning to v 2.10.8 and lost audio via usb from audio interface. I also lost video dropdown list to select camera settings. I see my capture device but no image. I called support and they said that v2 is no longer supported and does not work on Mac OS 10.13.4 (High Seirrra). So I downloaded V3. I got audio back from the audio interface but still no external video via Blackmagic Intensity Extreem via thunderbolt. Again I see the device but no image. I’ve tried 720 and 1080 video setting and nothing. I called support back and they said that there is no support for external video. I did vfy that video capture device worked via OBS and Wirecast.

Just noticed there is no HDMI signal into this capture device. It’s just a photo error. I was done with slide captures for the day when I took photo.

So Camtasia 3.1.1 is the first version that has full support for OS X 10.13.  I don't recall if the Recorder had issues with the new OS, but I know the Editor had issues.  I'm not familiar with the interfaces you are using.  To see if it is isolated to Camtasia or not  though, you may be able to use the QuickTime Player and see if you can record from your setup with that.  If that fails, then it is highly unlikely that Camtasia will be able to work with this setup anymore.
