Fast-Forward/Fast-Reverse buttons in Camtasia Editor

My job is updating training videos to match our software with each new release. To scope the impact of a new software release on our videos, I need to identify how many UI pages of several different types occur in a video. This means using the mouse to scrub forward and backward again and again through dozens of videos. It's easy to miss things this way, plus all that scrubbing with the mouse is KILLING my wrist! But regular playback is WAY too slow. If Camtasia Editor had the option to fast-forward and fast-reverse at increments up to 3x or 4x, that would cut my time in half, reduce my errors, and save my wrist--and I bet many other customers would also benefit from this feature.

have you tried putting the old video on the timeline, then applying clip speed adjustment to speed it up?  that way, when the clip is played in the editor, it will goy as fast as you want

This worked great! I ratcheted it up to 10x and zoomed through my videos at a nice clip. Thanks so much.

This feature has been requested for years. This particular request is at least 5 years old.

https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/fast_playback_options_2x_4x_and_8x_for_a_quick_video_or_finding_a_specific_part_in_your_video

I believe there is one problem. Trec file size.

Years ago this would have probably been much more difficult to do on most computers.

Camtasia recordings look great because they are recorded in avi. at a very high bit rate. Allowing you to zoom in quite a bit and maintain crisp text.

Today’s computers are a different animal.

From my perspective, this features is due to be implemented.

There are many that could struggle with this feature. Due to their underpowered computers.

TechSmith could do more to help with smooth timeline playback. Like allowing us to reduce the display resolution of the canvas to improve playback. There’s more but I’m getting off topic.

Camtasia 2018’s System Requirements include “Feature-specific requirements (Windows)”

With additional Guidelines for 4K,60fps and Behaviors.

FFW and Reverse Timeline playback may belong somewhere on that list as well.

Regards,Joe

Thanks so much, Joe, for taking the time to fill me in on this. "Champion Kayakman" suggested a good workaround that will do till Techsmith decides to add FF and FRW in the Camtasia editor. The nice thing is that Kayakman's method lets me ratchet up the playback speed by any factor I want.
