Favorite Quick Styles and Tools

(This idea is something we’ve heard from customers over time from several of our sources of feedback. We’re posting it here to gauge how well this fits our users’ needs. So please let us know what you think.)

I have a few particular Quick Styles that I use over and over. When I'm on the right tool, Quick Styles are great. I get the style and the look I want out of them. BUT when I'm not on the right tool, it becomes very cumbersome to have to move back and forth between the tools and then go all the way over to the right of the Editor to choose the right Quick Style.

What I really want is one spot to access all my Quick Styles. That could be in a new tool called Favorites. Or maybe allow me to add Quick Styles to the toolbar. Either way, I want one central place.

LOL, the icon could be a Lord Of The Rings ring. One place to rule them all! ;)

A one-stop-shop for all my Quick Styles would be great!!! Please add this feature!

This would be very efficient. Would you back port it to v 11?

Our team uses Quick Styles a lot but the changes with v13 made SnagIt more difficult to use. Do the things you do well and stick to them. Don't try to be everything to everyone like Microsoft has done with Office 365.

This is one we really want to do. We have a really good understanding of why people want this type of feature. It will certainly save users clicks and make you more efficient in your use of Snagit, which is in line with the purpose of Snagit. But due to the level of effort of this weighed against the other work we’ve got on our backlog, we’re likely not going to get to this in the next 12 months.

In light of the value that this could bring, we are still keeping this Idea as Under Consideration unlike some others that are longer term. This is an Idea that we want to encourage further comment and ideation with the community. That way we’ll all be better equipped to work on this when it next comes up as a feature in future release planning.

Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.
Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this round up.

We have moved this one to Planned. We are starting work on this soon, we're hopeful that the design we have will work for you all. If you are interested in trying this out in user testing or betas, let me know here. Thank you!

Hello all,

I’m pleased to announce that we released TechSmith Snagit 2019 today!

With this version, you can click the star on your favorite quick styles and they will appear in the new Favorite tool. This is on both Snagit Windows and Mac.

You can download the new version here: https://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/
See the rest of the main new features here: https://discover.techsmith.com/snagit-2019-images-are-better/
And for a more exhaustive list, check out the version history pages for Windows and Mac.

I am using it as well. However, how can we move these favourite around? For example, I would like (in your screen capture) to move the red X next to the red arrow since I use them more frequently.

1. Can this be done?

2. If so, how is this to be achieved?

Kind regards,

Shiraz.

Just left click, hold. Then drag it to wherever works for you.

As Joe indicates, you can easily drag the items around and arrange them to your liking for Quick Styles.

But unless I'm mistaken, the new Favorites panel was being asked about. And unfortunately that panel cannot be arranged as you want by clicking and dragging.  At least, not as far as I'm aware. Sure would be nice if it could be manipulated in the same way.

This new panel appear to  simply list the items added from left to right and top to bottom. So if you know what items you want and you know the order you want them, you can delete each favorite, then carefully add them back in so that they end up in the arrangement you want.

@Chris Larson, this would make for a nice enhancement to see in a future version! ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

Your mistaken,  I'm in the Favorites panel in that screen shot.

Heres a suggestion for you. Try testing things like this for yourself before posting.
I'm willing to bet you could have tested for this, much faster than it took you to type your response.

Sorry Joe. Because I saw Quick Styles listed, I failed to notice that there were multiple tools showing and I rather assumed you were in the typical Quick Styles panel.  Which DOES allow you to click and drag to move things. I didn't realize that the favorites panel also shows "Quick Styles" too. And that seems odd. I'd not noticed that before.

But here's the thing. I DID test it before replying. And on my own setup it does not work. No clicky draggy to rearrange. Not for me on my own setup. I tried it multiple times before I posted.

However it's quite kind of you to make my day by hurling an insult my way.

Cheers... Rick :)

@Rick

I have to agree that the Favorites panel should have FAVORITES as the header.
Kind of confusing to have Quick Styles as the header.

FYI the drag and arrange works for me.

Maybe you need to do a repair if it's not that way for you.

The Favorites are very helpful, but it's not possible to put Borders to Favorites. Why?

Only TechSmith can say for certain why. But I believe Borders is an effect. And for some reason we can't add effects. I'd love it if we could. I am addicted to using the Torn Edge effect myself.
