FEATURE REQUEST: Allow for a OneClick default preference (image, video, etc.)

OneClick is ok but I hate that after each selection I have to choose that I want the capture to be an image rather than a video. Older versions of SnagIt made it easier and all we need here is a simple preference that says "OneClick capture defaults to..." and then you can choose image, video, etc.

Hi Josh, you can do that now.

Go to snagit preferences, then enable the menubar icon.

Then click the menubar icon and setup a set of settings, and save it as a profile, you'll see that below, then you can give that a custom keyboard shortcut.

Hi,

In Snagit 4 (Mac) and Snagit 13 (Windows), we've added a new capture window that allows direct to image and direct to video.

You can also save these configurations as presets and assign hotkeys to them. More information on presets here: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/205287637-Save-Capture-Settings-with-Presets

Additionally, OneClick has a flyout window that has direct to image, video, etc.

Yes I get the OneClick flyout but that means each and every time I want to do a capture of an image I have to click on the menu and choose image. That's double the interactions and adds up when I'm doing tons of capture work. All I'm asking for is a default preference so that I can do rapid-fire captures without extra clicks.

Looks like on the Mac side, that window says expanded when you click on it. It sounds like that's not true on Windows?

This is the Mac version but I'm at work now, so can't test. I'm really just trying to have the big red button default to image capture via a preference.

Make a preset for what you want and assign it a hot key. If you use the red button at the top of the screen you will be presented with a choice for some reason. I have presets to carry a screenshot to Affinity Photo, others to scale to 500 px tall and use the clipboard only.

Hi Rick - the hotkey I knew about but I want the big red capture button to allow for a default of image capture. These are all just workarounds.

Yes they are. We will wait for wiser minds to show how to do this. I can find no way
Some radio buttons to select the behavior of the button would be nice. MAKING IT A PRESET would be even better

Hi Josh, given your last post - I'd like to refer you back to Luke Griffioen's post. In the screenshot he posted about the new capture window, Snagit remembers the last state of that window. So if you always want the red button to mean "image capture" click on the image tab on the left (as shown) and then clicking the red button will always start an image capture...
(at least it does until you change which tab on the left is selected)
If that does not do what you are asking for, them please try again to explain it...  (because I think it does exactly what you've ased for)

At least for me,  Snagit only remembers the last state if I capture through the capture
window.

It does not remember the last state of capture through One-Click which I believe the OP is referring to. Still get the bar.

I too would like to see an option for the OneClick to have an option for settings that "I Choose" and not a default non-configurable option. I hate that the cursor is captured when using the red OneClick button.

I do not want a workaround, I would like to see an option for me to set my choice in how the OneClick Red Button works.

Make SnagIt 2018 even better by offering this.

One click will do the last capture profile as far as I know. If you performed a panoramic then that is what it will keep doing. So if you create a preset that is exactly the way you want it and use it onces, then one click should respect that until you use something else

Sadly, the cursor still shows even though I have save a preset that it should not. Tech-Smith did confirm this as well. They suggested that I list this as a feature request.

Feature request? How about a bug? Never mind. Do it that way

I am on a Windows 7 ultimate 64bit machine (by choice) but YMMV
and using Snagit 2018.2 but the way it has always work for me is that

One-click will only remember your last capture setting if your use one-click from the Capture Window not the one-click flyout.

If you truly what a One-Click function than creating presets  and using the one-click flyout is the solution.

You click on the preset of choice in the list and boom! the capture happens.

The way to get the most from the flyout and save clicks it is to leave the menu expanded

and have your most used presets at the top of the menu.

Instead of this

Have it like this

Just one click on one of the presets and your off and capturing.

@david.strong3
If I create a preset with Capture Cursor Off Snagit honors that for me. For example a preset to capture at 300 DPI does not capture the cursor.

If that is not working this way for you maybe try a Install Repair or Re-install of Snagit.
If you have Capture Cursor off Snagit should not capture the cursor.

Up through SnagIt 11 you could assign any profile you wished to the giant Red Button.
So you didn't need to remember multiple hot keys or deal with drop down menus.
Just remember the hot key assigned to the red button.Or hit the button.

You would need to open the larger menu to reassign  profiles to the Red Button. But that was it, then you could close it.
You could assign multiple hot keys as you can today.
TechSmith put there foot down through countless protests and requests to restore that functionality.
I still shake my head in disbelief today over that one.
What harm can come from allowing us to have that feature is beyond any explanation I can dream up.
