Feature request re: Magnify tool in SnagIt editor

Request for feature to "lock" or freeze" the magnified area then move the magnified area to a different location on the screen, so it is possible to have a magnified area with an arrow back to the normal sized area on the screen. Clearer for instructions than a magnified area that obscures the standard area.

Or make the tool even better - see here for an example (image also attached), where the magnified image and its origin are even clearer: http://graphicdesign.stackexchange.co...
(I suspect the example in that image is manually created).

Hmm, wonder why I didn't see this when I searched before posting request, at least it did appear in a side bar later.

His is exactly what I was referring to with my post:

Hi and thanks for submitting your idea/feature request!

As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the first, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.

In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!

Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!

This is one of the top requests we’ve gotten in the last several months. Adding this functionality to the magnify tool is something we wanted to get in for the 13.0 and 4.0 release. But we ran out of time. We’ve focused efforts on solving some other some other problems for this upcoming release. But we will definitely keep this in mind when we revisit our work on callouts and specifically the magnify tool.

Are there any additional changes to the magnify tool that you would see as valuable?

Hi Chris

Love this new feature. Would love to see different shapes of magnification, such as rectangle or ellipse rather than just circle.

Hello Jason,
I just reposted a similar request.  We're supposed to "champion" our causes,
If you like it, give it a thumbs up here too:

Check out my additional reply towards the bottom at https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/additional-shapes-effects-for-magnify

That gets at my goasl for the ideal.
If you could get the tapered zoom lines, it really makes it look like it is standing out being magnified.

The other thing in that that is crucial is that it is all vector based, not raster based.  That could make it tricky, but would _really_ expand its usefulness.  That is, it could be dragged around, resized, copied, etc.  Get a few of your wunderkinds excited about the aesthetics/functionality possibilities and they'll figure it out.

Also, the Mac version needs this dreadfully.

I find this frustrating!  An old version allowed me to highlight text then magnify it elsewhere on the page so why has it changed!!!  Biggest gripe alongside the fact that you also used to be able to manipulate squares so you could add pivot points so you could add boundaries to non perfect square subjects - this also appears to have gone!  (mac Version)

Why is this considered an enhancement request?  This is a take away.  I've used Snagit for 10 years and it used to be connected with selection.  You didn't break it I suppose but this was a really poor design choice.  WAPD (works as poorly designed)  I voted but I feel like you have diminished the product's value.

alex.butlin and chrisp909, We still have this functionality with the Spotlight and Magnify effect. Which was not removed from Snagit. This Idea is dealing with the magnify tool which allows you to change the position after the fact. The goal is to remove the effect once the tool can accomplish everything that the effect can do.

Hi,
The video shows the feature I remember (and loved) from the former version of SnagIt.
But I can't find this in SnagIt 2018 !! (I mean magnifying a square selection, possibility to blur the background and moove the selection is extra)
Do you have a video showing access to the Effect in SnagIt2018 ?

Thanks!

Certainly. It's in the same spot in 2018. But you made need to scroll down your effects window. I made a quick video showing me needing to scroll here: https://www.screencast.com/t/pmJR7Cmp0z Windows only for now.

New round of voting coming up very soon for enhancements like this.

Magnify Tool extension in two points - like here!
When will it be?

First post is 2 years old
"Posted 2 years ago"

Square, round, as many forms... and so on.
Color radius between the two points. (as in the picture)

I think we're waiting for another 10 years.
