Feature request: Webcam video overlay in smaller floating window

TechSmith:

I often create training videos to explain workflow to members of my staff. I prefer having the webcam video overlayed on top of the desktop as I record my training videos. (See example below) I have always had to use additional software to accomplish this as Snagit only allows for webcam to be fullscreen or turned-off completely.

This is a feature that I would greatly desire to see in Snagit as my webcam overlay software no longer works in Windows 10. Thank you.

Hi, it's great to read you include yourself in the video, it creates a nice personal connection. Camtasia (also authored by TechSmith) is the tool that will enable you to achieve what you want to. You will also benefit from the extensive video editing features. (It's on offer this week too with 20% off if you purchase maintenance at the same time)

Hi Jayne. Thank you for the quick response! I have started using the trial version of Camtasia. I think this is what we're looking for! I love how you can re-position the webcam overlay after the recording has taken place. Very useful. And it looks like there are some other tools for highlighting the mouse-cursor position. :-)

You're welcome Tom.

Great idea to download the trial version - you'll be hooked!

TechSmith offer some great free video tutorials to help you get started. They'll give you an idea of what you can create too.

I'm a user, trainer and Reseller of Camtasia in the UK, I'm here to help if you need it.

Best, Jayne

Having an overlay would still be a useful feature in Snagit. I work with people who are not overly tech savvy and would intimidated with Camtasia. Snagit is a nice simple screen recording software and the ability to have the webcam has a picture in picture feature would make it even more useful for educators.

I agree with Jason, this would be a nice feature to add to SnagIt.  I can understand Techsmith wanting to differentiate their two products, but many use other software for editing video, and many others just would like to make quick instructional videos with SnagIt. Would be nice if the capability to edit video would be the differentiation of Camtasia and not simply the overlay feature in the record capability.
