Has anyone been able to locate a foot pedal that is USB to help with captioning?  Saw several on line but none for Camtasia.

How would such a device work?

Same as for transcriptioning.  Press on the right side of the pedal and it forwards a few seconds, press on the left side of the pedal, it rewinds a few seconds.  Eliminates taking hands off the keyboard and increases time for transcribing.

Hmmm, I'm guessing something like this?

Yes, but is it compatible with Camtasia?  I've located several, all listed the software it was compatible with, but none listed Camtasia.

Well, I never ever claim to know it all about anything. But this would be the first time I've ever seen anyone ask about using such a device with Camtasia. So I'm guessing this isn't something that's a common request.

I might imagine such a device simply emulates some keyboard function. As such, it would seem that all you would need to do is figure out the keystrokes you want to send and configure the pedal to send them. Assuming, of course, that this is possible to do with these pedals.

On the flip side, assuming the functions needed are configurable for hotkeys, you could maybe adjust some of Camtasia's hotkeys to perform the pedal functions.

Just thinking off the top of my bald head... Rick :)

Perhaps the IT tech could set up the hot keys?  That just might work.  Thanks.

Hopefully someone here on the forum uses one and can give you a recommendation.

If not may I suggest to just contact the maker of one you are interested in before purchasing and ask them. They should know if it will work with Camtasia.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with Camtasia. I use mine with Express Scribe. (You can check out my previous post on transcription and captioning tips. I find it much more efficient to transcribe and create caption files outside of Camtasia.) There are several good pedals. I suggest the 3 function version. I use the Infinity. My USB pedal works with PC and MAC.
