Free Transform Resized Video

Unless I'm missing something... I don't see any way to use free transform to quickly position a resized video from one corner.

Let's say I have an image of a girl holding an ipad and she is sitting at an angle to the camera. I would like to be able to quickly resize my video and make it fit in the ipad device as she is holding it etc. I know I can use the available controls to rotate and manipulate the perspective etc. However, I don't see any way for me to shift and grab the corner points and drag them to the precise placement I want in the cutout screen of the device. In Photoshop this is called Free Transform and it allows me to easily and quickly manipulate the image. It would be great to be able to do this with video in Camtasia as it would allow tremendous creativity with making my own custom overlays which mimic to some degree the Device Frames.

Hello Britt. As far as I know this is not possible to do a Free Transform in the Mac or Windows Versions. This would be a great thing to have in both versions so may I suggest putting this into the Ideas Section for a Future Feature Request ?

I too use Photoshop and other software that has the Free Transform Options and I think it would be great to have it in Camtasia and SnagIt also. Thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

Hi Fred,

Sure, be happy to place it in there. Who knows, perhaps somebody will read it and decide it has some enhanced product value.

If you want to be able to warp, distort or skew the video image to fit into an arbitrary frame (the iPad screen in the photo), Camtasia can't do that. All it can do is scale and rotate.

However, I've successfully faked this many times:
  • Create your foreground image (girl holding iPad) as a PNG with transparent background, and cut out the skewed area of the iPad screen. You will use this as a mask in camtasia.
  • Rotate and scale the video in the background (on a lower track on timeline) so that it shows through the mask.
  • Scale the video so that it is a bit larger than the hole in the mask, so that a triangular or other portion of the video image is cropped off. While the perspective of the resulting cropped video image may be off, many times this will not be noticeable.
This works most of the time for me, especially if you keep the segment short and/or the hole in the mask small.

I want to use free transform image to make  z depth  animation for my video and transform logo of my website in the video but the camtasia does not allow like photoshot to transform the image as you want.
