Hi gang

I just noticed that over on the Giveaway of the Day site they are offering a free copy of Ashampoo Snap 9 (Which is a screen capture tool as well as a Screen Recorder).

Normal caveats apply as always. And with this site, you MUST download, install, and ACTIVATE today. You cannot save the download and wait a day or so before installing.

https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ashampoo-snap-9-2/

Sorry Mac folks. It's Windoze only!

One may ponder why someone like me would post such a thing in the TechSmith forums when they offer Camtasia and SnagIt that does these things as well.

My own view is that each product does things slightly differently. Perhaps this product offers something like Skitch, with interesting callouts that you just can't find elsewhere. And it's simple to use what one product offers so that you can combine it with Camtasia and SnagIt to accomplish things you may not easily accomplish otherwise.

In my own view you can never really have too many tools in your toolbox!

Cheers all... Rick :)

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the program. I’ve been playing around with it for a while.

SnagIt’s the better program.

And this version of Ashampoo is the previous version 9. The newest version is 10.

However, it’s not usually a free program. And has a lot to offer.

There are people currently running a free trial of SnagIt.  This post could easily tank some of those sales. Most people prefer free. And will take that route.

To me, offers like this should never be promoted as an “Idea” in the SnagIt forum.

Regards,Joe

Why not?  I am not going to bother with Ashampoo stuff unless I get a report that they are really putting out good stuff. The burning software was the best thing they made and they got that so tied up in copy protection that I would lose access to it and need them to be able to use it again. To much good free and shareware out there to keep up with that

It helps keep techsmith on their toes too since they have moved so far away from their customer base

Indeed I do believe it's helpful for TechSmith to be aware of what other offerings capabilities are. I think it's also great from the standpoint of possibly generating even new ideas that may not have happened otherwise.

Their web site is even more disorganised and opaque than TechSmith. Cant get the so called free licence key. I think the idea is they make it so hard that you end op buying version 10 for 50 odd dollars.

@britur I didn't find it a problem.  Got key and installed.  Sure you had to create an account but I'm sure I have used their software before.
If snagit is considered the best then I am certainly not spending anything with any of them anymore.
Looked to me with just a first glance that Techsmith should steal some of their ideas.
Let’s face it Apple and MS started that way!

Late 70's or early 80's a buddy owned (and swore by) his Honda Civic. The Civic eventually died, for good auto reasons?, but the brand just kept getting better and better. Can anyone here claimed they loved or hated DOS v1.0 or 2.0 because they experienced it?

Well Rick Stone,

This forum reaches around the Globe. I can’t tell you how many SnagIt trial users there currently are.

How many users recently purchased SnagIt. And are in a position to request a refund.

What I know is this. For all you know, you’ve triggered $100’s to $1,000 of dollars “Or More” in losses for TechSmith.

If you think TechSmith will find that helpful. And will appreciate this post. Well, you might want to rethink it.

I compare the features of Adobe products to TechSmith’s all the time. In hopes they will adapt their functionality.

But provide access to FREE Software Keys. From TechSmith's Direct Competition. Post it in TechSmith's Forum. Appearing at the top of the webpage as an Idea. Literately passing out activation keys to the entire Planet.

It's just wrong on so many levels.
So to those of you that disagree with me on this. Were just going to have to disagree.

And move on to the next topic. I've said all I care to on the subject.

Regards,Joe

Joe, I'm like you, I love techsmith and their products, but turn that  into an "only by "TechSmith" and only "this or that", well, you're missing the point:
- Techsmith learns just as you and I do. See something else that's bigger, better, ...
Do you believe TexhSmith only learns from paid "users"? That might be a mistake.
-  User comments, here there and everywhere.  I wish it were easier to determine if your techsmith "problems" may be mine in the future, but no one is advised to report their hardware or Processes/Perfromance/memory usage. Not a big tech issue, but folks like me will never trust sites that don't require specifics, i.e. techsmith's answers are suspect.

Your not all wrong Ed, but I think your missing my point. Ashampoo is second best compared to SnagIt by some reviews.

PC mag got the price wrong.I believe this is for version 9. Not the new one.Which is only $40

I've played around with the program for quite a while. It's not that bad. Got some nice features. SnagIt's better.

But It's good enough for people to say. "I'll pass on SnagIt". Mainly because it's free, and 99% of them would never realize they had the free option. If they hadn't seen this post.
Pardon the analogy.
SnagIt 2019 was just released. Yet there's a drug dealer on the corner pushing another product for free. If it were actually drugs, the dealer who didn't belong in the neighborhood, would be shot dead by now. LOL
Okay, now I'm done.

Joe, you are so right, I believe no damage done as it is almost impossible to navigate their stupid system. I have already pointed this out to Rick Stone under my provocative heading "ABSOLUTELY HOPELESS - GETTING WORSE AND WORSE UNBELIEVABLE"
I do believe you are one of the real experts and hope you could help me. With the problem I try to identify there.  It is to capture multiple pages from som very nasty Facebook comments and contributions and I want to see if Facebook has mended its terrible ways when it comes to taking action. Unfortunately not easy to send FB links.
Would you help me Joe, please please and I'll buy you a beer or two when we meet, And certainly if you ever come to Sweden.

If you cant do it or dondt want to, I understand, but please then let me know.

My emai is:

Joe you are a genius. The beers are yours, but you'll have to come to Sweden, much stronger here. I don't know what you do, but I do wish you coyuld become head of tech support at TechSmith, this would make a huge difference.

Thanks Rick.
@Joe you might be right but if it is a good product (snagit) and fixes its past issues BEFORE they release a full blown 'new - cough' version then they don't have anything to worry about.
