I am now beginning to use Snagit 2018 extensively and find that is crashes consistently. Often times it happens when I am using features such as Magic Wand and Step. Its also very sluggish when responding to selection/applying features.

I've been using SnagIt 2018 since it's release. It's been very stable for me.
What are the specs of your computer? What version of Windows are you running?
I would try a repair install or reinstall of SnagIt for starters.
If it's still unstable I would contact Tech Support.

TechSmith's Support has fast response times. You'll probably hear from them sometime tomorrow.
No joke.

Me too.
And I have the latest drivers.
And I have done a repair
And I have recently done a complete re-install
Nothing makes any difference
I have just come to accept that I will need to restart it 2 or 3 times a day, and probably lose some work.
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600 CPU @ 3.30GHz, 3301 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB
Runs off SSD
But I will raise a ticket too
