Fuse fails to connect to Snagit Editor on same wi-fi network

I upgraded to Snagit 11.3 and Fuse.

Fuse on my android failed to connect to Snagit editor on my computer even though the phone and my computer are on the same router.

My guess is that there is a firewall issue... but no messages appeared on my computer (as in Windows blocked ...).

The tutorial video did not say anything about having to export (sharing) my C:/ drive or anything else along these line.

Bottom line.. it doesn't work (but it should.. its a great idea)

I have the same problem.  Presumably we need to open a firewall port. Would be nice to know which port.

Hey Guys,

As far as ports go, we use 8317, so make sure that is open and enabled. Also, there is the possibility of other network adapters causing issues. Try disabling all adapters except the one you are using and see if you are able to produce a better result. Hope that helps!

Logan S is correct that does work but it is a pain.
I got this to work after initially failing every time.  I had started looking with WireShark and had chased through the firewall settings.

I scanned the QR code to see what it said - it gave me an odd IP address 192.168.abc.1 when my local LAN was 192.168.lmn.xyz.
I looked through the adapters and sure enough it was an adapter from a VMWare install that did not show as having internet access under win 7.  I disabled all the VM adapters.

I think a better analysis of which adapter has internet access by SnagIt Editor would have resolved this and it would have been a seamless interface.

Otherwise this works really well and seems pretty fast to transfer.  A+ for idea B- for implementation!

I am as well.  I did have multiple adapters running, including VMware, I disable them and was still unable to connect. I have not tried rebooting, but it should start easier OOTB.

Hey Chris,

Any chance you could open a ticket at support.techsmith.com for this? Also, could you put Nate in the title. We'd like to take a look at this with you. Thanks!

Instead of logging a new ticket, can we check on the progress of this one?

Hey everyone

I'm a developer on the Android Fuse team. We just released a new version (1.4.6) which fixes a bug that was causing images sent off of your phone's SD card to fail and give an incorrect error message (something along the lines of "Could not connect to Snagit").

If you were previously able to scan a QR code, but then you were never able to send an image from the Gallery tab inside of Fuse, the new release will hopefully resolve your issue.

We are continuing to look at other ways to improve how Fuse and TechSmith products connect, and hopefully we can smooth out other issues you may be running into.

Hi all

found out that Local Port 8298 had to be opened (TCP&UDP) in Firewall (running ESET), to get FUSE sending captures to SnagitEditor.

Works well then.. while was previously blocked on mobile.

Exactly the same problem.  Fails to connect even though both machines on the same network.
Holding off on Snagit and Camtasia until this is fixed.  Come on  - can't this be fixed soon?

I shouldn't need to go disabling firewalls or enabling ports.  Neat idea but which doesn't work for me.

Hi Robert,
If your network has security enabled to prevent the connection, you will need to disable that. We do not make that network change on the Fuse end.

And, you need to have Snagit or Camtasia installed to use Fuse.

Hi Kelly,  Thanks for the reply.

I get no pop-ups telling me something is trying to connect - no indication nor any security prompt that an app or program is asking for access.

If I knew how to give the access I would - as long as I didn't have to disable firewalls or open up port holes.  Still seems a bit to complicated as it stands - and I know it's just probably Windows and Android systems and not Snagit or Camtasia causing the problem.

I do have Snagit installed by the way.

Appreciate your help.

Hi Kelly,

How's it going? This is one of your TechSmith alumnis here - I know you have so many you can't remember all ;)

Sadly, I am experiencing the same issues as all the other people writing about their troubles to connect their device to Camtasia or SnagIt on their computer. Tried to find out which port I need to open but could not get it resolved. Windows firewall is not in use so it can't cause the issue.
I am trying to connect my Android device to Camtasia, by the way. They are both on the same network.

Would love to work with Fuse. Using an xfinity router. How can I determine the port I need to open?

Thanks!

Snagit 12.4.1 - Samsung Note Pro, with Android Kit-Kat won't scan QR code.  Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom with Kit-Kat does scan the QR, but reports that it can't connect to my computer, a BOXX PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The IP addresses are certainly on the same subnet.

Fuse has never worked for me on this machine, with any version of SnagIt, even after triple checking everything, running through tutorials, verifying port, mucking about with the Win 7 firewall, anti virus, etc.

I have never had this much trouble connecting anything, and I know TechSmith software is NOT at fault, because l know that Win 7 64 is typical, buggy, kludgy Microsoft garbage, which is actually kind of cool because if Microsoft Windows sucked any less, I wouldn't have much of a career.

Does TechSmith make a version that runs on Linux?

Well, it's 2018, Snagit 12.4.1 began to crash frequently on my Win 7 64 machine, and finally wouldn't launch at all (almost like a forced-upgrade time-bomb). I loaded the trial version of Snagit 2018, and although it didn't crash, things I didn't like started happening. The new Snagit editor shuts down aero glass, so I can no longer capture desktop effects, and Fuse has not improved its connectivity at all. I won't be upgrading to this version; sorry Techsmith, it's been great, but it's time to move on to a product that actually works for me.
