Get Older Version?

Since I am unable to use other formats other than mp4 for capturing something that is 1.5 hours long, is it possible to get a earlier version of Snagit?   Only one project will waste 5 gigabytes-  If I use an older version then I could use wmv or avi as an alternative.

Hey Terre,

What version are you looking for exactly?

Well I'm not sure but I have the latest version but when my friend was using Snagit, it apparently was an older version.  It gave an option of the type of output to use - you could select the format - e.g. mp4 or avi or wmv, etc.  I'm looking for that version.  Do you know if the previous version will allow that?  This one does not.  It only uses mp4 output - and they are way to big when I am capturing.

The reason why I purchased Snagit was because it had nice options for capturing video but I am disappointed that it has changed.  I had no idea that I could no longer select from options for file formats.

Hi Terre,

I do not remember any version of Snagit that allowed you to choose the video file format to output to such as AVI, WMV, etc.
But, we have had a lot of versions of Snagit and I can't always remember the feature set in every one. Can you check with your friend to see what she is using?

Could she have been using Camtasia Studio to capture with?

It was Snagit 10.  I've learned that Snagit 11 only uses capture of mp4 whereas version 10 had a selection to choose from.

Okay. Thanks for getting back with us on that.

I have version 10 installed, you can get that version here:
http://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions.asp

However, I only see the video as being .avi video file output.

Can you upload a screenshot here of the options your friend has?

Sorry for all this back and forth, but I'm trying to figure out what your friend actually is using to get the WMV, MP4, AVI video file output.

Thanks for any other info you would care to share.

Understood Kelly, thank you.  No, he does not have the older version, he is using the latest version now and does not know how to screen capture from previous versions.

I think what would be most helpful is having the ability to adjust my quality of the video capture.  A lower quality would produce less space while a higher quality will produce more space.

I appreciate you assistance Mr. Mullins.  Thank you for pointing me to one of the earlier versions.

Question about downloading an older version.  Do I need to do anything specific with my current version?  Can you have two versions on the computer or do I need to delete one of them?  I forgot to mention that I am using OS X .

Hi,
You can download another version for evaluation purposes, however, you can only have one working copy on your computer at a time (in other words, the one licensed copy that you use on a regular basis.) .

So, Snagit for Windows version 10, 11, 12, which we have been discussing in this topic, is only for Windows. Not for the Mac platform.

As a general note, while Snagit can record video, allow simple cuts, and output to an MP4 file, Camtasia is needed in order to extensively edit the video, which includes changing the output format or changing the quality settings.

Interesting Kelly.  Let me take a look at the cost and features for Camtasia.  Thanks for assisting me!
