Google Drive Image and Video Short Links

Hey guys,

We know that Goo.gl short link will sunset, hence you removed the shortening when we do screen or video captures that directly upload to GDRIVE.

However now it's really effecting our team's productivity as we can't just Snagit screenshot and get the link to immediately paste as a short link.

Now the link comes through like this - which is unusable / hard for sharing with people. Example

https://drive.google.com/a/websaavvvy.com/file/d/1-aweYSrCSjRNB_VtTowdZHGwgXaqEq_E/view?usp=drivesssd

* Now we have to do DOUBLE work.
* We have to paste the long link then use bit.ly to shorten, copy and only share it - Too many steps involved.
* This is the only issue now that will make us consider using another tool. But we don't want to if possible! Cos we love Snagit. Except this inconvenience

Request & Suggestion

* Can you guys really consider using another free tool to shorten like Bit.ly or similar?
* So our links looks like this to share: http://bit.ly/2OzkHYk

We truly hope you'll think about doing this.

Thanks alot guys.

We love Snagit, but if there's really no way to incorporate an auto shortlink, we would 'with a very heavy heart' have to consider another tool.

As it's just too time consuming and affects our daily productivity & efficiency -- by having to copy, paste into another link shortener (bitly) and copy & paste it again for sharing.

It looks like a small request/feature but it certainly is the one used most frequently, many times a day!

We truly hope to you guys will consider it.
It will make such a big difference!

Cheers

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback, we were pretty bummed about Google removing their short urls as well. We initially though that bit.ly might be a little bit strange since those links could go anywhere, but it's good to hear that something like that would cover your needs. I'll make sure the team receives this feedback!

And perhaps the ability to log into our own bitly accounts so that the shortcuts are stored there? Many thanks. JimM

Thanks Luke,

We definitely need it.

It's small but makes a big difference :)

Any other link shortener works, don't have to be bitly.

As long as it's not like the raw super long urls!

Cheers

Yes! @Techsmith - How's this coming along guys?

Will it be implemented soon? With an alternative shortlink service?

Thanks!

@Ashique Yeah, looks like Google is deprecating goo.gl, so Snagit no longer supports it in 2019. (https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006443147-Snagit-Mac-Version-History

I had this working in Snagit 2018, then it broke when I upgraded to 2019. Trying to figure out how I got it working before..

Google is replacing these with FDLs.  That would be my choice if you could make that work.
