I love the new grouping feature in Camtasia 8.

However, they keep closing. As soon as I click on something else in the timeline, the currently open one closes.

Is there some way to keep them open?

No

But you can select a group, and use ctl-U to ungroup them; then their objects do not close.

You can multi select objects then use ctl-G to regroup.

Thanks for posting, kayakman.

Word of caution on this one: If you ungroup an animated group, the group-level transitions and animations will be lost.

Hi Caleb,

One thing that might help you - if you haven't realized already - is that you don't always have to click the plus symbol next to the group name to open groups. You can just right-click on the top group handle and choose "open group".

Nice Point Josh! I bet there are even more ways of opening up these groups that you haven't mentioned.

Help me understand this:
Why are they being closed them in the first place?

Same with the Animation View. Explain why this is closed for me automatically.

Scott:

I can't say that I am sure of the closing/remaining open logic on either the groups or the animation drawer. One argument for collapsing regularly is the fact that when either of those are expanded, they can potentially cover up other media on higher tracks. Of course, one argument for remaining open is that you have to keep reopening them. Is it safe to assume that you, like Caleb, would prefer they stay open until manually closed?

Yes, keep them open. I'm primarily using a single video track with these groups. By closing these items (animations and groups), Camtasia's asking me to precision or multi click way to often, and/or asking me to maintain a short-term visual memory or the items, which i frustrating because the cycle continues until these can stay open.

Hope this helps.

I'm going to change this to an idea so it can be tracked as a feature request.
