I am a Math professor and used a Surface Pro 4 (i5 6300U, 8gb ram and 256gb hard drive) with Snagit to record lectures I gave in class. I was not able to use the built in mic because every time the fan turned on (which was quite frequently), the built in mic would pick up the noise from the fan which was quite annoying for anyone trying to watch the video later. I started using a mic with a usb dac to get around the built in mic issue but for some reason the surface started heating up even more vs when I was not using it. Over the course of 6 months, the surface suffered damage from the overheating.
Would getting a more powerful processor help with the heat issue or is the recording for 75 minutes at a time going to cause heating issues with any processor? I really would love to use snagit as it did everything I wanted to and I got a very nice file at the end. The workflow was exceedingly simple. Right now I have to use an iPad pro with the screen recording feature which requires about 15 minutes of putzing around before I have a usable file due to audio issues from the way apple records audio.
I need something portable that I can carry from one classroom to another. Do you have any recommendations for an alternative to the surface pro that will work well with what I am trying to do?
Kindly let me know.
