FYI ... discovered this AM; reported to tech support ...

    BRAND NEW ISSUE?

as of this AM, any 2019 production w/controller will not load/play locally, neither .html launch file will work

can launch with xxx.html in Edge, and productions works if uploaded to my web site or to screencast.com

    WHAT GIVES ????

    multiple projects/productions = same outcomes

I'll add that 2018 productions work OK; and 2019 projects down-converted to 2018 produce and play locally in Chrome OK

I get the feeling that Chrome has changed something?

FYI, changing Chrome's auto-play policies does not help

I am having the same issue I was told by a tech support that it is not mean to be run local???  This is full nonsense!  I've produced over 150 video all open for viewing prior to releasing.  How are you to verify you CC and TOC makers are correct after production!!  Want answers

tech support has now confirmed the issue; something to do with each new production pulling in latest version of SmartPlayer

they are investigating

their suggested workaround .. use a different browser

Thanks for the update kayakman. The workarounds they offer are nice to get you through things but I sure hope they start looking more into fixing and updating issues users have requested.

To your first question,

If you open the .min.js file in a text editor the version should be the first thing (line) of the file

It will be something like   /*! Techsmith Smart Player v5.38.0 */ for example.

As far as the performance issues. Markers or not  does not matter.

Sometimes sound is off,  and a few other minor issues.

I'm pretty much up on the different issues posted and what not, I'm here on the forum
enough as you know to be aware of issues being posted.

2019 is just buggy and sorry but IMO a downgrade of previous versions.

re the version... what I get from last production ...

/*! TechSmith Smart Player v5.38.0 */

FYI, I have found 3 serious issues with 2019 ...

projects with lots of markers and when marker flags are showing experience hangs/crashes [i.e. editor will crash and burn]

imported media scaling is different in 2019 than in 2018; so many projects created in 2018 cannot be upgraded/used in 2019

the smart player in 2019 is different than one used in 2018; with projects that have a very high numbers of hotspots, the produced 2019 video [MP4 w/player] will never load

so I too must use 2018 in these scenarios

all these issues reported to/confirmed by TechSmith

Well if that is the version you have then it's not new today because that is the version I have from a production in 2019 about a week or two ago.

That was my last production with 2019 to date.

Thanks for the info.

@ Dubie ...

the version I referenced above was from a 2019 production yesterday AFTER TechSmith fixed the issue

I do have a production [still broke] that was made while the issue was present

using Beyond Compare, I've done side-by-side text compares of the .min.js files

they appear substantially different

the bad version does no have the version tag at the beginning of the file

good on left; bad on right ...

Camtasia ships with a base version of "Smart Player," but will check if there's a new version of Smart Player available on TechSmith servers. If a new version is available, this will be downloaded and used with Smart Player local productions. When you upload to Screencast.com, TechSmith Relay or Video Review we're always serving up the latest version of Smart Player.

Many reasons for this. Smart Player is a core piece of many of our web based services. It is *owned* by our cloud dev team and constantly being updated / improved / fixed. Browsers change a lot and web technologies are constantly evolving. It's not feasible for us to issue "maintenance" of the core desktop product on a weekly or daily basis, but we can provide the latest web bits for customers with a lightweight download of html / js. That's why you aren't required to download the entire ~600 MB desktop app every time there's a Smart Player update.
