Help me troubleshoot audio lag

I have Windows 8.1 4GB RAM 3GH processor and Camtasia 8.4. All worked fine until couple of days ago when I now can no longer render videos as the sound files don't sync properly and sometimes the sound doesn't even show up on timeline - I record audio separately on audacity and it has definitely recorded.
From google I have tried setting "high performance" on my computer and enabled statistics which say I am dropping couple of hundred frames - my CPU says only 28% with Camtasia and 48% for the whole computer.
I am not aware of any recent upgrades in my pc that have caused this but I currently can no longer successfully render videos. Any advice please? They are only three to five minute max screencaptures as mp4

I'm going to assume you are running Windows 10.

Type settings into the search bar and open it,then go into update and security.Click update history and see if an update was installed around the same time Camtasia quit working. If so you could try uninstalling said updates.

Regards,Joe

Hello. Actually I am running Windows 8.1 as I said in my description but I can still go and check the updates and find out how to uninstall any - I will let you know. Thanks

Well I tried that - there was an update on Wednesday, although Camtasia worked fine until Friday. It hasn't made any difference and I am completely at a loss now what to try. Making videos is my job so I cannot currently work- the only last resort I can think of is buying a new computer and upgrading to Camtasia 9 but that really is overkill when it has worked properly for three years.

I would do a repair install of Camtasia. It's fast and will not effect any of your preferences or projects.

Hi again. Just an update. I tried doing a repair although I got a message about Windows not being able to locate the file. After googling that error message I installed a Windows installer something which claimed it fixed a corupt registry key. I also, having read around, stopped recording my Audacity sound as mp3 and recorded as wav instead. One or both of those seems to have fixed the lag problem which is a huge relief, although I am still getting hundreds of files "dropping" in my statistics when recording. I only turned statistics on this week ,so maybe that always happened - I don't know. Anyway - I am back in business, thanks.
