i have build an elearning modul in camtasia. It has markers and hotspots. The problem is, that i cant prohibit that the users can slide through the video wihin the smart player. But It should only work by klicking the "Next" and "Home" Buttons. Is it possible to regulate this, Has anyone an Idea ? :-) best regards

I found recently a way to make the player controls unvisible but the user can anyway control the video by clicking in the nether sector of the video page :-(

Hey Marcel,

This is an interesting idea. As of now, Camtasia and the Smart Player don't support an option for prohibiting users from scrubbing through the video. Can you share a bit more about why you'd like to do this and how it might help you? I'll also be passing along a suggestion that this is included in our next feature request round up.

Thanks and have a great day!

hi :-)
yes, i pasted the following in my project html file:
TSC.playerConfiguration.setDisableControls(true)
But this makes only that the progress bar becomes invisible but not really disable, so that the viewer of the video can anyway slide through the video....because the mouse-curser turns into a hand-symbol...so that the viewer knows, that there is something to click....

thx and best regards, Marcel

break up your project into marker segments

produce to MP4 w/controller, set video to be multi files from markers

select not to have a TOC

use a full project hotspot that jumps back to beginning

when production is played, a viewer has no practical option to get to next segment, but can always jump back to beginning

I know of no way to force any viewer to actually watch a playing video

if the marker segments are short, the incentive to skip is essentially eliminated, and the progress scrubber becomes irrelevant

example ...

in the video, I said to use a go-to-time hotspot; you need to use a go-to-marker hotspot instead

I'm not sure I understand how you want the video to work; can you provide a link to current video so I can see how it presently operates?

thx, for your answer. but its very strange that there is no other way. I have built a little menu and from this one the viewer can decide the different content. I dont know if this works with your instruction.

Unfortunately,
Camtasia doesn't have a native feature that restricts usage of the smart player.

At least not to the point that students, employees, etc. can't "Cheat So To Speak " and just skip around through segments of video to try answer questions without watching the entire video.

I've seen this question posted many times in the past.I've never seen a posted response with instructions on how to actually do it.

You could post this as an Idea and see if it gains traction and gets added as a feature.

You can also run this by Tech Support and see if they have any suggestions for you. If they do I'm sure others in this forum would like to know about it.

Here is a demo I did with a menu, end of scenes navigation, and No player controls

http://demotestsite.info/TOC/

There is no way to skip around but you can pause /play the video by clicking on the video.

If this is helpful let me know and I'll post the process

Dubie:)

Hello Dubie,

I am looking for the same solution. Can you help me with sharing your solution to hide the timeline (to ban showing timeline if mouse comes over the video)?

Thank you very much in advance,
Best, Gabor

Hi Dubie,

Thanks,
I could find this video finally: http://demotestsite.info/no-player-controls/

In the meantime I realised that I would still need a Fullscreen button - but exclusively. Would you have any idea how to keep just that button?

Thanks,
Gabor

it works perfect with my small menu but sometimes it jumps by klicking anywhere in space of the menu to the first title. Do you know what the reason could be? I tried it, its also in your demovideo.
Other question :-) do you think its also possible with the structure down in the pic? In my project i need a main menu with some kategories and Next and Back buttons, so that the users can always jump back and forward.
thx a lot for your help! Without you i would have stopped working with camtasia

yes, you can set the buttons to not open in new browser window

but I made it that way so that if a viewer closed a video window that the menu would still be available

the menu is a very short, stand alone project that only has hotspots [no media files]; main menu hotspots are set to go to a time [they access a set of hotspots assoctated with a sub menu]; sub menu hotspots are set to to go to URL in new window

its a nice idea; and the linked tutorial videos have you uploaded anywhere....cool...and how did you made it, that nothin happens when i klick for example in the middle of your menu screen. When i klick in my menu screen the video stops  and when i klick again the menü video plays along. :-(

I watched you video; I note that most hotspots are not enabled?

it's still not clear to me exactly how you want your menu and videos to behave

disregarding the hidden player thing for the moment, it seems as if your main menu launches another video; that video has stop at end/click to contin ue hotspots, as well as a hotspot that will restart the main menu video.   do I understand this correctly?

could you explain in english in detail what happens when you click the different buttons

but it seems to me that if you took the approach shown in my example menu, you can get what you want [again, hidden player issue ignored]

I'd suggest you build a prototype that does not try to hide controls, and host on screencast.com

you will need to host all the sub-videos so you can get their URKs before building and hosting the menu video

your thoughts?

hi kayakman,
ok, how i want my menu and videos to work together. i uploaded a picture here with my structure, its not completed, only the first and second chapter are in progress
The students should come from main menu to the chapter by klicking chapter buttons (hotspots), with "next" buttons (hotspots) they come to next page and the can jump back by klicking the "back" ( zurück) buttons. The videos without buttons have invisible hotspots over the whole video so that students jump back by klicking into the video.
All the pages, which the students get to see in the learning course are small videos and all the videos are pasted in one timeline. you can see it in the pic below.
I hope you unstand what i want know :-) so if you have a good idea, how i can make it better i am very glad!
The whole course will be pasted in a LMS when its finished :-)
 thx

Marcel, thanks for additional drawings; I now see how you are trying to structure the project

you mention that the video will be posted on an LMS; I have no experience using an LMS, so I'm not sure if your approach will work OK, especially if you hide the player controls

please let us know how things progress

this not a problem, i tried it, also with hidden player controls! you can export the file on camtasia as a scorm file. What do you think about my timeline? is it  circuitous

it seems as if you are making just 1 project [video] that that handles all of the main menu buttons

my preference would be to separate the videos that play for each main menu button into their own separate project [video], but that is just my personal style; but again, I don't know how that would work with an LMS

morning, thx for your answer :-) if i use your style do i have more  advantages or is it all the same? for the LMS its better its only one videofile with all menu buttons, because this will be not the only course.

for me, i think, is the important thing that the students cant stop the video during playing :-)

but i will make a prototyp to watch!

I recommend you design it the way YOU believe will be best for you and your users; again, the LMS thing needs to be considered, and I cannot offer insight there because I've never used an LMS

basically, make your desired prototype and see how it flies ...

please let us know how things progress

I was curious, so I made this quick demo to show one way to do what you want

this project has a single "replay" button that when clicked will replay video from beginning

there is a single "previous" button that when clicked will replay the previous video segment

project was built with markers, but produced with no TOC; this precludes a viewer from scrubbing around the entire produced video

I have video controls so that a player can start/continue play when desired; each segment is too short to encourage scrubbing to end of that section

I'd front end these videos with a separate menu video; the jump to URL menu buttons would open in same browser window so a viewer could just use back arrow to return to menu

just one way to skin the cat ...

http://www.cookbookplus.com/Temp/TechSmith/HowTo/Test/Test_player.html

there a 2 know bugs with multi files productions ...

if the 1st marker is close to start of project, the production progress bar does not refresh to show progress; but production will complete normally

also, multi files production will not work when played off local system; but it works fine when viewed off a web site

let me know ...

it was produced with classic theme player controls; they are very thin and somewhat hard to see at bottom of video; but they are there

ok, is it in your video not possible to disappear the controls with the script "TSC.playerConfiguration.setDisableControls(true)" so that there is really no way to stop and play, except the buttons which could be placed to navigate.

nice greetings, Marcel

my sample video was a normal custom production to MP4 with controller, multi files from markers, with no TOC output

since it's a regular CS production, I assume the "TSC.playerConfiguration.setDisableControls(true)" trick should work

ok, strange :-) in your video: http://www.cookbookplus.com/Temp/TechSmith/WishList/Ideas-ProjectManagement-QS-WithPlayer/21-WishLis... i cant stop the video by cklicking in your video, except the buttons in the video controller.

that particular video was produced some time ago when there was a bug in the CS smart player that always showed the "hot hand" when mouse was anywhere over the video; that bug has been fixed

however, you can also start/stop the video by using the space bar on keyboard

goog morning kayakman :-)
there is a question again :-)
why stops the slider everytime on a different place before end, i pasted a screenshot - ( the arrow shows the point where the video stops, after that -in this short area- the user jumps by klicking inside to the next page.
is there a possibility to skip it? thx and have a nice day, marcel

do you have a stop-at-end, click-to-continue hotspot at this location?

also, when you produced, did you do a custom production?

and what keyframe value did you use?

hi, not really, the same thing with keyframe on ervery second. the time-point where the video stops is different to the other points. Do you have an other idea :-) its really strange...in my timeline there is no space between the  videofiles.
Could the reason be that i have 30 frames per sec (NTSC) in my timeline. Is there an option where i can change this? i normally use PAL :-)

i have loaded an short screencapture video from my project up to screencast ( with player and cursor effect, so that you can see how it works) And you can see where the videos always stop...the strange time-point

i watched your video; it seems to be working fine except that the progress bar stops short of the end each time; but the time indicator indicates that the full video segments  play all the way through [like stop at 5 sec of a 5 sec video]

I'm not sure there is a problem here

heyyy :-) thx for our answer.
next problem :-)
i have now 35 markers in my project and i have defined all. its very easy ....when the user klicks into the video....the next video comes. But in some cases videos dont stop, so that the next video comes automatic without klicking. Its really strange.
could it be that there is a bug?
and the hotspots have all the same konfigurations. at point "Marker" i have always defined the next pages....page01...page02...page03...

update: now i try to move the markers some frames to the right, so that the marker is in the first frames of the next video.... before it were exactly between the videos.

the markers should be attached to the 1st frame of each video

make sure that your hotspots are at least 1 second long; try 1.5 or 2 seconds also; I assume that custom production keyframes are set to 1 second; be sure that video production frame rate is set to 30 FPS

can't remember ... are you making a single video file or are you producing multi files from markers?
