When I add the highlighter, it looks fine in Camtasia but when I export, it is moved to a different place on the screen.
This happened right after I updated Camtasia with the latest version.

Experiencing something similar when blurring part of the video, here's a demo of what happens after the export.

It looks like they know about this and they want us to use a video mask until it is sorted out... It is the same effect but you can now also have blurry edges and rounded corners if you want.
You can see examples online (YouTube) on how to use this. It is a bit more complex but kind of nice once you get the hang of it.

Hmm. I seem to be having the same issue with video masking as well.
If I create a solid "box," lower the opacity, and then mask out a portion to create a selected highlight, that still renders out in a completely different spot in the final video.
Did you have any luck with this method, Scott?

Hey guys,
Could you give me a bit more info on your systems? What version of Camtasia for mac are you using, and what OSX you are running? Also, does it produce out properly when you use a different format besides mp4?

2.7.0 / 10.9.1 - did a quick export to AVI but still the same behaviour - the blurred area is mirrored to the other edge of the video

I'm also running 2.7.0 / 10.9.1. I've tried exporting to QT (still using H.264 codec though) and I get the same result.

Version 2.7.1 of Camtasia for Mac was released today. It fixes this bug . The update is available from within the app via the 'Check
for Updates...' menu item under the 'Camtasia 2' menu, or you can
download it from http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html .

Mac Camtasia 2.7.0 fails to export to mp4 correctly.
After the recent 2.7.0 update for Mac (28 JAN 2014) exports to mp4 or YouTube no longer align all the highlight and callouts. I tried this with a project that worked great a month ago and has not changed; now the project renders the video incorrectly. Is there something new that I should know about before using this latest patch?

This was a bug in 2.7.0. It has been fixed in version 2.7.1 which was released yesterday.
