Hot Keys not always working

I have upgrading to SnagIt 2019.1.2.  I have two hotkeys configured (default Print Screen) and F6 for All-In-One.  Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.  Is there something on my Windows 7 laptop that I am hitting that turns the hotkeys off?  I also turned on the feature in SnagIt to "Allow Snagit to override other hotkey assignments".  I need the hotkey in order to capture drop down menus.  Any ideas on how to stabilize my hotkeys so they continually work?

There may be another app which hijacks the hotkeys. This sort of issue is always difficult to troubleshoot.

Are the keys turned off?   An app I occasionally use, QiPress, is still free and works in all versions of Windows XP and after.  It uses a small area in the bottom left of the monitor#1 to display what keys (KB or Mouse) are being pressed. What it does NOT do is report what keys are claimed by what program.

I know that Camtasia "hi-jacks" F9 (F9=pause) from Excel (F9=Calculate) and given that it is called Windows (plural), so as JL1 states, it can be difficult.

FWIW, I bypass difficulties with a programmable keyboard. I don't change app defaults and if F9 no longer works in Excel while Camtasia is running, I can create a new "Calculate" key  for Excel. Problems are taken care of one at at time as they make an appearance.

I forgot to mention that Camtasia hi-jacks from any program using F9 whether its running or not. That means it doesn't matter what order the programs are launched in, Camtasia doesn't play fair.

What is strange is that the hotkeys sometimes work. That might help troubleshooting, by checking which apps are active when the hotkeys work and when they don't.

HotkeyExplorer and HotkeyCommander used to be great apps, but they stopped working on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit system at least 2 years ago, and the developer never answered messages.

HotkeyExplorer may appear to work, but in may experience, it does not (no longer) show ALL apps linked to hotkeys.

Does the last image capture setting used not become the default for the 'Print screen' keypress? I sometimes get image captures that are not what I wanted because of this.

Thanks for all the helpful hints.  My work around today is to reboot my laptop.  I have a programmable keyboard and will see about configuring an All-In-One alternative hotkey.

When you are having the hot key problem open Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+Delete), click on app history tab and look at what apps are actively working. That can be a good source for a clue as to what is conflicting. You can use Task Manager to temporarily shut it down. You can also learn what app you are using prior to Opening Snagit that interferes and avoid it if possible.

Hi - I just upgraded and don't see where I can set Shift Ctrl P to be the Region image. I only see Repeat last capture item - and that repeats only the last fixed region - doesn't allow me to select the region. Am I missing something?

You can create a custom profile, then select Ctrl + Shift+ P for a shortcut.
Saving the profile as a custom profile would be the best way to go.

I cannot assign Shift+Ctrl+P. As SnagIt doesn't seem to support that combination.

My experience has been that 'Ctrl' will always be displayed before either 'Alt' or 'Shift' regardless of the order they are selected. Same holds for display of three-key combos with ' Ctrl + Shift + Alt'. 'Ctrl' will be shifted to the first position, 'Alt' will be second and 'Shift' will be last along with whatever other key is selected. This is not the same format as displayed in the ‘Snagit Capture Preferences>Hotkeys’ tab. Maybe this is a default behaviour for SnagIt or a 'Windows' requirement for the use of these keys in combination. Anyway, when actually using the hotkeys, it doesn't matter which order they are pressed.
