How am I supposed to install the Snagit 2019.0.1 update?

It would be nice if there were actually an Install button. Skip, remind, learn more...none of these allow me to install. Arg. Oh, and I couldn't use Snagit to snap a picture of this dialog because the dialog disappears when I open Snagit. Arg.

Hi Dan,

The reason you can't install right there is because you're on Snagit 2018. It's a paid upgrade to 2019 (unless you have an active maintenance agreement). This is the best workflow we've found to avoid confusion with users who don't realize it's a paid update.

I have an active maintenance agreement and I couldn't figure out how to install the update. I was frustrated enough (and cared enough) to remind myself how to use screen capture without snagit and send you feedback. That is the kind of customer feedback I like to get because it helps me understand how I can improve my products and services.

Hi Dan,

We do have some things in the works that will enable a better upgrade process for users with maintenance and software key management in general, but we're early in the process.

Thanks for the feedback because it helps reinforce that we're looking at the right things.

In the future when you need to take a capture of Snagit, we have a setting to prevent Snagit from hiding

I'm on Snagit 4 (Mac). If I upgrade to Snagit 2019.0.1, does it overwrite Snagit 4, or will both exist as separate applications?

...asking because of high stakes; if Snagit 2019.0.1 breaks anything in my process right now I will be in a very bad situation. I'd like to have both available just in case...

(When I moved from Snagit 3 to Snagit 4, both existed as separate apps... hoping the same applies here.)

Also... when I upgrade, will Snagit 2019.0.1 recognize all the quick effects I've built, or do I need to build them all over again?

I'm going to reply to my own question (for the sake of others who might have the same questions).

Snagit 2019.0.1 did NOT overwrite Snagit 4. Both are there, and they run independently. I don't know if there are any issues with doing that, or if you can run them both at the same time, but I can switch from one to the other by quitting one and opening the other, so I can rollback if necessary.

Snagit 2019.0.1 DID recognize all my quick effects and my various preferences. Visually I can barely tell the two versions apart, as all my things are there, and all my preferences are remembered. Yay!

One more thing: I've only been using Snagit 2019.0.1 for a few minutes but wow, am I happy with it! It fixes a lot of the annoying behaviors of Snagit4 (such as seemingly randomly switching tools, etc.). The new feature where you can create a collection of "starred" quick effects from various tools that all live in one place is like a dream come true for me. That alone is worth the price of the upgrade (so much less clicking and jumping around now!)

And OMG, the blur tool now has pixelation! Yay! (It's been available on Snagit for Windows for years but this is the first time it's appeared on Snagit for Mac!) Thank you thank you thank you!
