How can I record video, then pause and take a screen shot? You state this can be done (https://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-snagit-how-to-capture-video.html?utm_source=email-trial&utm_m...) yet when I pause the video, the only option is to end it or begin recording again - what about the screenshot? Or at least allow screen shots to be inserted into the video - there is no way to combine multiple videos nor add screenshots to them, nor add anything to them for that matter, no arrows, nothing, everything is grayed out. I cannot use this program without these features. And when I try to search for answers, every answer refers me to Camtasia, when I am searching within Snagit.

Record  the whole thing first without pausing.
After recording, find the place on the timeline where you would have paused.  With the timeline marker at that spot, go to Share==>Export Frame As... and save the frame.  You can now cut that particular frame in and have as much or as little pause as you want. Do this wherever you want a pause.
Hope that helps.

Well that's what I did. Just took individual recordings but then had no way to combine them. I found I could only combine screenshots. But could not add any videos to them nor could I add any screen shots to the videos to make one big presentation.

Start a new project, pull in the various files, videos and create from them.  Not sure why you can't combine them.

Hi tmorris,

To answer your question, there is no way to do what you explain in your initial question.

You are either in VIDEO mode, or IMAGE mode. You cannot mix and match.

Nor can you add screenshots to your Snagit video. Or, make a video from your Snagit screenshots.

I have read the tutorial you link to, and I don't see any where that says you can pause the video recording, take a screenshot, then go back to recording the video where you left off.

For all you would like to do, I would suggest you check out Camtasia, our full video recording and editing solution. www.camtasia.com

Thanks for using Snagit.

I have started from scratch over and over. Is it because I'm using the trial version? Maybe it doesn't have all the features of the paid program?
You said "You are either in VIDEO mode, or IMAGE mode. You cannot mix and match. " yet your help page states that one can pause the video then take a screen shot then restart the video. But I cannot do that. The page specifically says (about halfway down: "Pause while recording. While recording, pause and resume at any time, switch between the webcam and screen recording with the webcam button, and even change audio settings. When you’re done recording, click the stop button." But how? The only option is to stop the video or begin recording again. OR how does one zoom in during recording?

Hi tmorris,

I'm sorry for this confusion....

So, my statement is correct, "You are either in VIDEO mode, or IMAGE mode. You cannot mix and match."

I think we might be confusing you with some terminology. Let's look at this statement:

"Pause while recording. While recording, pause and resume at any time, switch between the webcam and screen recording with the webcam button, and even change audio settings."

  1. Pause while recording: You are able to pause the video, but you REMAIN in VIDEO mode. You cannot pause the video, then go to image capture, then back to video and pick up where you left off.

  2. Switch between the webcam and screen recording with the webcam button: The webcam CAN be switched on or off while recording since this is a video feature. So, you can go from your screen recording video, switch over to your webcam video stream so you can show yourself on video, then switch back over to what you are screen recording. However, you CANNOT switch over to image capture.

  3. How does one zoom in during recording?: You are simply recording your screen with Snagit. There are no other features for zoom and pan, for instance. So, if you want to zoom in, you need to use the Windows OS option to zoom in. Which for me, I use the CTRL button with the scroll wheel on my mouse.

Overall, you can switch back and forth between the video options, which is video screen recording and video webcam recording.
You cannot switch between video screen recording and image capturing.

I hope this helps clarify the options.

Hi tmorris - can you tell us a bit more about why you're wanting to pause while video recording and take screenshots? I'd like to understand the task you're doing.
