How do I capture video with an external camera in 1080p? Verses Camtasia automatically reducing it to 720p

I am recording online lectures using both the screencast for a power point and an external video camera to capture video on Camtasia 3 (Mac). I have everything set at 1080p, however, Camtasia automatically reduces the video file to 720p (the screencast bit is just fine at 1080 but not the video file). When editing I then have to enlarge the video file by 150%, therefore, significantly reducing the quality of the video.

Is there anyway around this, to change a setting somewhere to make it capture the video file at 1080p? Again I am not talking about the screencast portion but what is coming from the external camera when connected to Camtasia as a sort of webcam.

Thanks!
