I just updated from Camtasia 2018 to Camtasia 2019. When I click on Help > About Camtasia the user name is blank. How do I enter my registration key?

I assume you were able to enter the key in the software and stop the trial. I got a prompt right after installation and entry of the new license key to go to the registration site and record it. I was signed in already, but if I was not, I would have been prompted to sign in to the registration site.

When I installed 2019 I still had 2018 on my computer. After the installation I uninstalled 2018. I don't remember entering it during the installation of 2019. When I open 2019 it doesn't show anything about the trial mode so it's getting the key from somewhere, but it doesn't show anything in the About dialog.

Not sure what's going on there. It sounds like it automatically upgraded the software based on the timing of your 2018 purchase. Check on the TechSmith license registration site to see if 2019 has the appropriate key associated. This may have been intentional on their part.

Yes it's listed. I wonder if it has something to do with the Maintenance Agreement?

Hey Bob,

I do apologize for any confusion!

If you are saying when you open Camtasia it's not giving you a window about continuing your trial, then you are all set! The license key won't show in the Help>About section. That is normal.

It being on your My Products section within your Techsmith account is just an added bonus!

Hope this helps! Take care!

Kind Regards,
Aaron

Mine doesn't show the registered user in the Help>About either.
Whats shown in Help>About depends on lic. type

Where you want to look is in Help >Technical Support.

Scroll the diagnostic information box down a bit and your name and the license key should be shown there.

If it's there and Camtasia is working as unlocked then your good.

Dubie:)

I can only guess.

That may have been what it was in version 2018 and carried over or you missed a setup step when you upgraded.

Many versions ago, when you entered a key, there was a box to enter your name.  The software didn't actually care what you put in there, but it would show in the Help > About box.  Later, when the key entry screen was redesigned, the name entry box was cut and the name was hard-wired to "User" for the purpose of the Help > About box.  So that's completely expected.  But I can see how it would be confusing, and might lead you to think you've done something wrong.  You haven't.  I'll talk to some folks here and see if there's some reason to keep it this way.  I'm sure we could put something less generic there that would be more reassuring.  Sorry for the confusion.

Late to the thread here, but I just wanted to point out that you can also register your key at https://myaccount.techsmith.com/MyProducts/Software. You may find that it's already associated with your TechSmith user account.
