I've got a piece of media that I've split in two places; I'd like to know the length of it before I remove it (so I can add a text note to that effect). But the length doesn't seem to be one of the Properties? Where do I find it? (don't tell me i have to subtract, that's what I have a computer for)

In the Windows version you just hover your cursor over the clip.
The start time is displayed "Where it starts on the timeline"
And the Duration of the Clip.
I know Mac & Windows are different, So hopefully this helps.I don't answer many Mac questions because I don't have a MAC.I'm unqualified to answer and get it wrong to often. This one seems like I might be on solid ground.

I'm used to Windows too. On macOS, it is NOT displayed, only the raw clip filename, nothing else. :-(

Yeah, that's why I normally avoid MAC questions.  Looks like it's back to avoiding them completely. Sorry about that. It's a shame that information is omitted.
