While I record screens the resolution is good, but when I save them as a .mp4 file, the resolution is poor.
I want the video to be sharp enough to show web URLs on full screen when played back.

Your output setting should be high enough. As far as I'm concerned, there a bit higher than necessary in most cases.

Are you Editing "Project Settings" and Producing "Size" your video at the "Recorded Resolution" ?

record in 1920X1080 and then publish in 1280x720. There are a number of factors that go into image quality. When I export anything I choose bitrate mode and crank it all the way to 20,000. Audio at 320. The other factors are quality of the recording itself. If your using a webcam, always choose 1920X1080. Many webcams wont allow you to choose the MBS. rate. If it does, choose the highest one. A typical mirrorless DSLR will record 4k at 100 to 150MBS. and 28-50mbs in 1080P. webcams are probably far less than this rate. Also, the recording screen or viewfinder on a camera will often look brighter depending on the type of screen it uses.
