After I cropped my image in SnagIt (Mac), it became blurry. What can I do to make my edited images as sharp as my original ones?

That shouldn't happen if you just cropped. Question: what format was the image? Was it .snagproj? PNG? JPG? (The answer might reveal a clue.)

Also, are you sure you were viewing at 100% both before and after the crop?

Hi,

What version of Snagit do you have? We had some issues with blurry crops a few versions ago, but they should be resolved in our latest version (4.1.5).

Hi Luke. I'm using 4.1.5 on Mac. Hi Blork. The cropped image looked sharp in SnagIt, but once I dragged and dropped it onto email or Word, it became blurry. My original looks sharp wherever it's displayed. Both the original and cropped images are in the PNG format. And yes I was viewing my cropped image at 100%.

The problem is likely your email program and Word. When you drop an image into those programs it doesn't necessarily go in at 100%. It's auto-sized to fit your page, and as such the pixels are remapped to accommodate this.

One way to test is to view your PNG file in a web browser. (Usually just dropping the file onto the browser works. Otherwise, use the browser's File menu to find and open the file.)

If the image is bigger than the browser window, the browser will probably shrink it to make it fit. Note that this is just a display trick; it's not actually changing the file. If this is happening, your cursor will usually show as a magnifying glass if you move it over the image. If you see that (with a plus symbol), click it to show the image at 100%.

Is it sharp? If so, then your Snagit export is OK and the problem is that email and Word are shrinking the image to make it fit on the page.
