How Does Camtasia 8.6 Alert To Project Recovery After Crash?

Cam 8.6 crashed on Win 8.1, which doesn't happen too often, but on a restart sometimes it will alert of an auto-saved project immediately and sometimes I can Open and the alert appears, sometimes on New, and sometimes not at all.

My question is when would an alert appear?  On Open, on New, or just wait (which didn't work either)?  I've experienced all three states.  I think understanding the process of recovery would help in a lot of cases posted here, especially if the Recent Project does not list the lost project.  I've located the directory that is supposed to be the temp file but it is nowhere near the progress made prior to the crash.  Auto-Save is set to 3 minutes but again a backup is not always available.

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you!

my experiences with the "project recovery" function suggests that it is not reliable; for me, it never works for many crashes

best practice is to execute a manual save after every major edit [i.e.  save early, save often]

Yes, I was hoping 8.6 would solve the crashing problem but not so. Right on: Save early - save often. Shouldn't be that way. Disappointing in a product I thought was going to be THE editor I could stay with.

I'm experiencing a crash every time I start recording. My computer goes to blue screen. Is there a fix for this?
