How to assign a mouse button for Snagit screenshots?

The Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center allows me to assign every button on my mouse to specific program functions: https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/support/how-to/mouse/reassign-buttons.

I want to make a Snagit screenshot by pressing the left button on my mouse. Eventhough it was easy to change that setting in the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center, Snagit does not react.

The screenshot profile in Snagit is associated with the PRINT-button. In the Mouse Center I have assigned the PRINT-button to the mouse button.

Have I missed something?

One thing I did take notice of is this. Microsoft acknowledges that it might not work with SnagIt or other programs as well.

Note

  • You must assign the Click command to either the left or right button. You can assign this command to additional buttons if you want.
  • Reassigned button commands may not work as expected for some programs or games. Some programs or games may not support customized button assignments.
  • Some mouse models include specialized buttons that cannot be reassigned.
I don't have a Microsoft mouse so I can't run a test for you. Perhaps someone that has one can run a test of their own for you and see what happens.

Regards,Joe

Follow-Up,

I use Logitech programmable gaming mice myself. You can't assign Print Screen to Left or Right click. You can swap left and right click buttons but that's it.Probably for left and right handed use.
But you can reassign all the rest. It has 11 all together.

Anyway, I assigned print screen to a button and SnagIt recognized it.

I suggest using AutoHotkey, it can easily achieve what you are looking for :)

If you are intent on using the left mouse button, why not assign an odd key to it? Then assign the same odd key to replace the print screen key as the SnagIt trigger?

Just pondering out loud a bit... Rick :)
