in order to track all actions a user performs with the an interactive video produced in camtasia, i would like the ability that for certain triggers (e.g. a hotspot is clicked, or video reaches certain timeline, etc.), a java/javascript function is invoked. i can use this function to store appropriate information to the database.

You could use a hotspot object to trigger JavaScript. But that won't work unless the user clicks it. And there is presently a stinkbug with launching a separate HTML page stored locally. You need a fully qualified HTTP call to a web page to make it work. But the thought would be to have an HTML page configured with an onLoad event that would trigger the script.

Triggering when the playhead reaches a certain point is problematic. At least with Camtasia. I've seen it done with some of these internet marketing tools. Unfortunately can't recall the name of the tool at the moment. Perhaps you could use google.

Okay, I remembered what the software was I was thinking of earlier today. The name is Simple Video Pro.

I'm not sure that they are still selling it. But found this link.
