Hello,
how can I send a Snagit-video editable to another user who wants to edit it with Camtasia? The mp4 format is not suitable, is there a way to save the video in another, editable format for Camtasia?
Thanks!

The short answer is no, SnagIt records video using the mp4 format.

 The reason for this?
If a user wanted to send a video to someone immediately after recording it. There is very little wait time for the video to render because it has already been produced.
You just name the video in editor and save it. If you didn't apply and edits to it, then it's ready for sharing immediately as a result. Plus the file size is relatively small and easy to send in most cases. This is by design.

If you want to have someone edit your videos in Camtasia. The best approach is to record the video with Camtasia in the first place.

Stop the train! I just captured a video clip in Snagit, then opened the MP4 in Camtasia, edited it, and exported it again. No problems at all.

Am I missing something? Christian said "The mp4 format is not suitable, is there a way to save the video in another, editable format for Camtasia?" It seems to work fine?

I'm on Mac, is that why this is so easy? (the topic is listed in the Camtasia for Mac forum)

Hello davemillman,
I'll try to bring you up to speed.

MP4's can be highly compressed videos. The videos SnagIt produces are compressed a lot. Yes you can edit them.

However, videos saved with less compression can produce better looking videos in the long run.
That's why Camtasia recordings have such large file sizes. A 1920 x 1080 Camtasia screen recordings properties are shown below.

The total bit rate exceeds 55,000kbps.

Audio is recorded at 44,100hz Stereo. 1,411 kbps.

Below is what you get with a SnagIt video.

Video quality is only 3,000 kbps.

The Audio is mono and only 98kbps.

Some people will tell you to play the SnagIt video on your screen and record it with Camtasia. Then edit the recording instead.
That's jumping through a lot of hoops in my opinion.  That doesn't salvage poor audio and requires a lot of screen time.

I hope I explained well enough for you.

Regards,Joe
