How about a command line interface for creating Camtasia Relay Profiles?

We use Camtasia Relay for capturing lectures. At the beginning of each semester I have to create a bunch of Profiles for new courses. It would be fantastic if there was a command line interface so that I could write scripts to create Profiles (Publish Destinations, Publish Accounts, etc.)

Hi Matt -- I've been thinking about this idea and would like to get a little more information from you with regards to your profiles and how you use them.

Are you looking for something to help in the creation of just profiles using existing destinations and accounts or are you hoping to have something that would create those as well? Furthermore, are you taking advantage of variables at all? I am looking to see what changes in your profiles from semester to semester. Perhaps its just the titles of the profiles?

Hi Matt,

We use iTunes U to host our content. I already use scripts to create the iTunes U pages and set their permissions which is great because doing them manually takes time. Using iTunes U means that every new course gets two Publish Accounts (one for the iTunes Video Tab and one for the Audio Tab) and one new Profile. I have thought about variables but couldn't figure out a scheme because each tab in iTunes has a unique Media group id and each faculty will have at least two Tabs. If you have ideas about using variables for this I'd love to hear them.

If it were to be a command line interface I'd like to be able to create at least Publish Accounts and Profiles but doing LDAP Imports would also be handy. I picture the command something like "relay --newprofle --name --description etc".

Matt,

We do not support using variables for iTunes U at this point. I'm asking the development team why this is the case as we do for the other publishing destinations. If we did, it would help to minimize your effort. Here is a video showing you what I mean. http://www.screencast.com/t/jhjRhrFtRD4

Let me know if that would make your life easier.

That would certainly help. Under my iTunes U Publish Accounts I currently have 34 different accounts. If there were only two (audio and video) it would help when I set everything up. I have been using variables for some lesser used Profiles but iTunes U is our primary content provider for the foreseeable future. I appreciate your time and feedback.
