How can I capture a SUB-MENU together with its parent menus (nested menus)? I need this very much! Actually Snagit captures only the sub-menu!

Have you tried using the Capture Type of "Menu"?   That may help.

Unfortunately, the "Menu" capture still has a small bug:

The background is partly captured as well, if the background is not part of the window belonging to the menu.

For example, make a window so narrow that the right-most menu reaches out of the window's boundaries. In this case the part of the background outside the window is captured as well:

This bug should be fixed!

When I use the Menu option, it only captures the menu for me.  The rest is transparent.

Greg, have you tried doing it the way I've described?

Yes I have and all it captures is the menu.  I had several windows behind this capture and none of it came through.

So it seems the background on my computer came through and on your computer did not come through.

Hello, Peter;

One thing I would recommend trying the Multiple Area capture method as this should allow you to individually capture the separate panes of the menu / sub-menu you're attempting to capture. You can see a quick video on how to do it at: http://www.screencast.com/t/d3qAwH9GR

Hi there

In addition to GregB's fine suggestion, I find that for me, the click and drag to select the area type of capture works well for that. With most software, the moment focus moves away from the expanded menu, the menu collapses. But SnagIt seems to "freeze" the screen with the menu fully in view, allowing me to select around it and capture the expanded bit.

Cheers... Rick :)

I have noticed a problem with this, and several other screencast videos that Snagit personnel have posted in the last few days.

The video can ONLY be opened in Chrome! When I try Firefox, IE or Opera, all I get is a black screen.

Would you please check on what the problem is? It is very annoying.

I wonder if it's a version thing or something else.  I played this video in Chrome, FF, and IE and all played it identically.

Peter - I noticed something, and this may be why you got the background and I didn't.  Notice on my captures I do not show the menu bar, but yours does.  If you go into Properties, and then go to the Menu Tab and there is Menu Capture Options.  "Include Menu Bar" was off on mine, an it looks like it's on, on yours.  If you don't need the top menu bar, then only the pop-out menus will be captured and the rest will be transparent.

GregB:

I did some more testing. On my XP Pro SP3 computer, the video has only a black screen in the following: Opera 12.16 (32 bit); IE 7, Firefox 20, Palemoon 24 (essentially Firefox 24). It works fine on Chrome.

On my Windows 7 Pro SP1 computer, it works on Opera 12.16 (64 bit), Palemoon 24, and IE 9 (normal as well as compatibility mode). These are the only browsers I have on this computer.

Have no idea what this means.

As in your note to Peter, my Snagit is also set with 'include Menu Bar' as off, and like you, I do not see the background.
