I've been trying to load files with FLV extensions in Camtasia 6.0.3
When I go to the folder to import the file, Camtasia doesn't "see" the files. Also when I try to drag them into Camtasia I can't.

Any help would be appreciated.

FLV is not a format that is supported on the timeline. Please see this support article for details and workarounds:

I already knew that Camtasia does not support FLV file.

To load FLV files in Camtasia, a widely used solution is converting FLV to Camtasia compatible formats.

Here is a step by step guide on how to convert FLV files to many other popular formats, including Camtasia favorite AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, etc.

Hope it is useful for you.

I'm really shocked. With all the discussions about making and uploading videos to "YouTube" with Camtasia as being one of it's selling points, it's amazing that it doesn't support what appears to be the default format for YouTube videos.

At least 90% of all the videos I see on YouTube are FLV formats.

Can you recommend a program I can use to convert the videos to a format Camtasia can handle? Preferably without degrading the video.

Thanks,
PG

FLV format is one kind of Flash video file formats, which is used to deliver video over the Internet in the same manner as F4V, which is the other Flash video format. Numerous famous video sharing sites such as YouTube choose .flv as one of the uploaded or downloaded formats. Since it is getting easier to extract the FLV content from video-sharing website nowadays, the number of FLV files floating around is booming and many people obtain a ton of video clips in this format on their computer.

To import FLV to Camtasia, here is a guide to convert FLV to Camtasia supported MP4, AVI, MOV, etc.

Hope it can help you more or less.

The link I shared above has recommendations for conversion utilities.

No matter what format you upload to YouTube, your video gets converted into multiple formats and sizes. YouTube serves you a different size/format depending on what device you are connecting with, among other variables. Google purchased On2 in 2009 for the VP6 (FLV) and VP8 (WebM) codecs, and YouTube does currently serve up a small, low quality FLV as the default format. But they also create MP4 versions of just about everything. Transcoding to MP4 allows YouTube to play on iPod touch, iPhones, iPads, and other devices that don't have the Flash Player. You can use a tool like keepvid.com to see what formats and sizes are available for videos hosted on YouTube, like this. So if your goal is to edit video that's previously been uploaded to YouTube, you should be able to go get a larger, higher quality MP4 version, which should import directly into Camtasia Studio.

Moving forward, we believe we can offer a richer experience that reaches more eyeballs with MP4 than is possible with other formats, including FLV. So we're focusing more of our energy in that direction.

Hope this helps.

can you play and view the FLV in any viewer?

if so, capture it with Camtasia Recorder while it plays and use that new camrec clip in your project
