How can I revert to Snagit 10 defaults for the Shapes, Arrows and Stamps?

I have recently updated to Snagit 11 and for me the defaults for the Shapes, Arrows and Stamps are a backward step from version 10. How can I go back to the same defaults that were there for 10?

Hello Mr. Pearson,
Thank you for the question.

For shapes and arrows, if you have a shape or arrow already created in a Release 10 .snag file, you can open that file in Release 11, then right-click and select Add to Quick Styles. You can customize your Quick Styles with whatever defaults work best for you.

For stamps, all of the previous versions are available online. In Editor, at the bottom of the stamp gallery, select Download more. Then, you can select the stamps to download.

Please let us know if you have additional questions or feedback.
Thank you,
Tiffany

I need to know exactly how to get my arrows and shapes back from 10 - can you give better instructions?

And who was the "smart guy" that dropped them ?

Thanks - Herb

Hello,

I've been a raving fan of Snag-It for several years now; got two issues with v11.

Similar to the above; I much prefer the v10 default styles (arrows, shapes, etc) and want to revert to them but it is not clear from the reply if that is possible? (default set, not anything custom I created)

The other is that % is missing from image re-sizing? Egads, I've used that every Sunday for my sister's website stuff since 2006. Gone. Really?

I'll have to revert back to v10 if I can't get these resolved.

Thanks, Tim

Hello,
Thank you for the additional questions. I apologize my reply wasn't clear.

There is not a way to swap out the Release 11 default examples with the Release 10 default examples.

You can still create all the same shapes, arrows, etc. in Release 11. Are there specific callouts or default styles you use?

We received several customer requests to ship a new set of defaults to give customers ideas and new examples of the different kinds of callouts, arrows, etc.

We still have percent as an option for resizing, it's located in the units drop-down menu in the Resize image dialog box:
http://screencast.com/t/QJrirciBnO1B

We also have resizing options in Batch Conversion in Tools > Convert Images.

Thank you again for the feedback and questions. Please let me know if you have additional questions or suggestions.

Thank you,
Tiffany

Tiffany,

So there's no way to have the "default examples" as you call them revert back to what SnagIt10 has? We use this to do screen shots for training material and documentation purposes and the new "defaults" just don't cut it for these purposes.

Is there a way to revert back to SnagIt 10? We also have around 20 clients using SnagIt for similar reasons and I would hate for us to have them move to SnagIt11 only to find that their work methods have to change to suit the product (whereas it SHOULD be the other way around).

Rick.

Mr. Pearson,
I apologize that I am not answering your question clearly. I have created this quick Snagit video demo:
http://screencast.com/t/IwqFflKPc

You can download the sample file I used in the video from here:

Thank you for your patience. If that still doesn't answer your question, please let me know.
Thank you,
Tiffany

hi,
I upgraded snagit to ver 11. I trust the software and Techsmith and I upgrade every time you come up with a new version.
I am sure that on ver 10 i had mich more style possibilities and theey are gone
Same for Image style which has only 18 entries (and i can swear that there were much more)
Same with text styles.
Am I missing something? do I need an add-on? I can't find "options" in the software.

Thanks for the information above, I've been on the road and just now checking back. I was able to add back the items most frequently used.

Glad to see Percent is an option for Image work; although I'm not sure what was gained by making this less visible. Suggestion: would you please make it sticky (remember last usage)? It's a PITA to keep having to make that selection over and over again.

I have upgraded to V11 and I don't see the callouts that I have used in previous versions, how can I get them back? Is there a folder somewhere in the V8 or V9 program?

Hi. We've created a utility that lets you easily import the quick styles from Snagit 10 into Snagit 11. See the following article: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/ans...

This worked like a charm. I cant stand those new styles. The arrow function especially, it's backwards and not a time saver.

How can I get the old Snagit shapes and Callouts into Snagit 11?
I really hate the new, few shapes and callouts in version 11, so is there a way to import the old, cleaner, more varied shapes and callouts from Snagit 10?

While i concur with the majority of posts that reducing offerings in an "upgrade" is generally a mistake, I have a specific question about the Shapes defaults in 11.

It seems to me that in previous versions the default options for the outline Shape was a TRANSPARENT fill and possibly no shadow. Yet now in 11, everytime I want to call attention to an area of a screen capture with a red circle, I have to change the Fill option to be transparent.

Is there a way to change the default behavior of these options so that I don't have to waste time manually resetting them every time i open SnagIt?

I have used SnagIt at 3 different companies and at every one Instructional Designers use the outline Shape to circle things - so changing it to be a filled object instead of transparent is just plain silly.

Hi Amber, do you know about QuickStyles? I made a video showing how you can make an outline just how you like it and keep it around so you don't have to recreate it. http://screencast.com/t/KC7yUUGEfPY

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for! QuickStyles shouldn't be so hidden though...a handy "favorites" feature like that should be right in the Styles pane next to the Outline, Fill and Effects mini menus to let you know it exists. :)

THANK you so much for the .exe file to change the quickstyles! The default ones for version 11 are horrible (sorry but they are!) I'm a huge fan of snagit and think it is WAY more valuable than outlook, or even internet exploder! GREAT! But version 11 was a step back.

And how do I edit (and make them permanent changes) to the quick styles? I've tried but can't figure it out..

Matt, thanks for your feedback. When you get an object, just how you like it, right click it, then select "Add to QuickStyles" from the context menu.

Oh, one more thing, when changing the width of the a line arrow etc, I much prefered the way it was in Sangit 8 with a box right there where you type a number. Now you have to do two extra clicks to select a fixed line width.

Dear Snagit: As much as I love your tool (and I think it's the BEST program installed on my PC) the new shapes are really horrible (think Apple Maps on the iphone). I've complained before, fixed them before, and installed some update and again they were reset.
Given the amount of people who have complained, I'm sure the rest of the snagit users (who didn't take the time to complain) feel exactly the same way!
I think you need to make some fundamental changes here. Why not have the option to have "new shaes/lines" and "old (and better) shapes/lines" under preferences.

I agree - who was the genius who stole all the great arrow and shapes, SnagIT is not an upgrade - it is a regression. Why did we pay good $$$ for a dud, what are the new features ?

Agreed; perhaps Classic or Hipster options? Trust me, the product owners know what they did by now, let's take it down a notch.

New in SnagIt 11.0: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit-whats...
Video capture is a more mature offering for one thing.

There is a simple cure available now so you can keep working as you like: http://screencast.com/t/KC7yUUGEfPY

Run that and then your SnagIt 10 favorites will be available once again from Quick Styles. Once you select them, they should appear to you first.

I can't see today's post by Luis Chaidez in this thread but I did read it in email. I see that the link for the EXE to bring back version tools is down. I have the file and can email it to Luis but I cannot seem to contact him here. Contact me at tim.mcdonnell@mitchell1.com and I will relay the file to you!

I also believe the lack of decent default shapes was a setback, and have now spent considerable time trying to repair this from Snagit 8 to Snagit 11.  "Just open any .snag file and right-click..."  I did a search and have 452 files matching *.snag on my system.  Which one or ones should I open?  As far as I can see, they're all the screenshots I've made in the past years.

So I tried to download the "fix" program, which is offline.  Sad.

I watched the instructions on making your own quickshapes - that's a great solution if you have 3 shapes to add and very time consuming if you need to add 50 or so back in.

So, can we
a) Get the "fix" program accessible again?
b) Could we, for Snagit 12, revert at least partially on the decision to remove all the USEFUL quickstyles that used to be in the product?  Maybe include both - having a few new ones at the top to show people some other possibilities while still having the bulk of the pre-generated ones below?
c) Perhaps even a "default style management" utility so that you can remove ones from the defaults you don't want - easily, quickly and semi-permanently - and yet an advanced option to "Restore" those back in case you just goof things up?

In case you found this page looking for the tool that TechSmith created for importing the styles from SnagIt 10 into SnagIt 11, it's been moved to here:

I appreciate the link that mmurphy provided. I cannot image why Snagit decided to eliminate all those Snagit 10 styles. It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I just downloaded a trial version of 11.3 (not 11.4, because of all the 'improvements' that were made--glad I read the blog comments first). Sure am glad I still have 10 that I can compare to.

I wonder if the Snagit folks ever ask their user base before making wholesale changes? It sure does not seem that way to me. I have been a loyal user for many years, but if things continue like the styles and 11.4, I may never upgrade from my 10.

I downloaded version 11.4 and it sure looks like the version 10.0 styles are the default once again. That sounds like listening to me. I don't recall seeing 11.3 being offered.
