Make a selection back to right end of newly inserted content
use ctl-X to cut out the blabk space between the contents
I find this faster and easier than selecting and dragging
I'm good with deleting empty space. What I want to do is to insert say 45 seconds of empty space between two existing clips. Basically, I want to shift everything to the right. It'd do-able if I select everything myself and then drag it to the right but it's kinda tedious to do it that way and there's no way to move my markers at the same time. That means that after I drag my clips to the right place, I need to then manually drag all my markers back to where they're supposed to be. It'd be a trillion times easier to just put the edit head at a location and then right-click and say "shift everything right by X seconds".
You need to position the red and green handles of the timeline indicator. You select the entire area that you wish to insert time first. Then you can right click and insert time.
You must place the cursor over the Blue Area you have selected before right clicking to get the menu to appear.

Hi Kayakman! thanks for the screencast, I really like your work! still no luck with the right click menu...I am using Camtasia version 8.0.1 and there is no right click option of insert time, can you see the menu below? there are 7 options, they are cut, copy, paste, delete, add playhead selection to Library, Produce Selection as, Close selection and that's it! no insert time option...so I guess it is in one of the updates that I don't have...
I don't remember when insert time was added
suggest you install the latest update [8.6.0]
you can always get and reinstall older versions ...
but I don't see 8.0.1 listed?
maybe contact tech support?
I see they added Ripple moving and trimming with version 8.0.3. The definition of that is not defined. I suspect insert time is part of the package because it is a ripple insert of time. A ripple edit moves everything on the timeline for you when adding or subtracting media or open space to the timeline. See Image Below.
Because you need to jump through hoops to upgrade your government computer I would also recommend upgrading to 8.6. It will add a lot of features you don't currently have and take a little getting used to as a result. It's a great upgrade in my opinion but I just wanted to give you a heads up.
