Someone said iMovie is a good choice for joining videos. But it is not compatible with many popular video and audio formats. What if you want to join AVI, WMV, SWF, AVCHD, SWF, MKV, etc?

I just found out a detailed guide on how to merge various kinds of video and audio files like MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, MKV, AVCHD, SWF, MP3, WAV, etc.

Hope it will help you more or less.

Can you tell us what you mean by "merge"? It would be helpful if you explained your process so we know what you are trying to do.

Thanks.

What I mean by merge is combining separate clips. When I made this I cut it into 5 parts and can't get them all together in one project to combine all the clips.

Bring them all into the project and insert all 5 clips on the timeline right next to each other. You can't actually merge them together but putting them next to each ther has the same effect. If you want parts of each clip to overlap, just put it on a separate timeline.

I'd also like to merge clips as well. I find it frustrating that this is not a feature of the software. When I edit a large clip for errors I end up with several smaller clip segments. And I export it into a video. But when I save the camtasia file and open it up again later, all my edits are gone and it is back to the original one clip.

I don't see how this could be happening if you save your project. Maybe you could create a video and show us?

Today, TechSmith released Camtasia for Mac v. 2.4, which includes a feature called Stitching. Stitching allows you to edit specific pieces of a clip and then automatically join together the adjacent clips of the same file, effects and all. You can learn more about our 2.4.0 release here: http://bit.ly/17Wtsxc

where's a training video on stitching? I have 2.10.2 and having a heck of a time finding out how to do a simple stitching. A search brings up how to do it with studio, which the steps don't work on Mac.

Here is a tutorial on stitching: https://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-camtasia-8-stitching-essentials.html  It shows the Camtasia Studio interface, but stitching behaves the same in Camtasia for Mac.

Stitching is a fairly basic feature.  If you do a ripple cut or ripple delete, it will automatically stitch the media together.  http://www.screencast.com/t/zCqjsEKBy4

You can also manually stitch together two adjacent media that came from the same source file.  http://www.screencast.com/t/iITDkz1YBI

Those are the only two ways to stitch media together.
